A large, simple, inexpensive but reliable and accurate semi-automatic service pistol with a double stack magazine, based on the CPH 19. It is chambered in the 10mm Automatic cartridge and can fire modern explosive and particle burst ammunition, making it an effective weapon, even in the age of magnetic mass accelerators and directed energy weapons.
The BSP was H&Cs entry to the UFS Basic Service Pistol trials to replace the myriad of different handguns accumulated during and after the liberation from terran rule with a simple and inexpensive firearms, until reliable and cost effective directed energy weapons could be build in sufficient numbers to equip the whole of the military with. That never happened as the requirements and budgets of many branches and even singular units were sometimes too drastically different. It lost to the COF designed gun, but gained some popularity on the commercial market. The BSP is equipped with a digital ammunition counter on the backside of the slide, a feature that would not reappear on factory H&C firearms for many years to come as they believed that a feature like that has very limited practical use and only distracts the shooter from the environment and dangers around him.
Like on most modern weapons the trigger guard on H&C produced guns is large enough to accomodate the often quite large gloves of environmental suits, necessary to survive on many frontier worlds ... or in a vacuum. Many shooters are quick to point out that H&C overdid it on thier pistols though.
