Description

With the block 1 ships of the Constitution family in service Starfleet began to look at an upgrade program for the Ranger family of ships. These ships had given outstanding serve to Starfleet for a generation and Starfleet did not want them to slip in to obsolescence. As each ship came up for over haul it was refitted to upgraded specifications.

The most obvious outward changes were re-built warp drive nacelles that now allowed the ships to archive prolonged WF 6 cruising speed. Also notable from the exterior was a new bridge module, fine grid deflector shield network and universal docking collars at the airlocks.

On the interior the new bridge module had two turbo-lifts and enhanced command and control facilities’ as well as a C/Os ready room and a break room.

The medical department was refitted with the latest diagnostic and treatment equipment. The transporters were upgraded to the most modern and safest standards. Internal communication and monitoring systems throughout the ships were upgraded. The sensor suite received modifications to improve spectrum and resolution. Crew quarters, corridors, briefing rooms and recreation areas were all remodeled.

Throughout the ships almost every system received some attention and improvement. When the upgrades were completed these ships would remain front line units for decades to come.
