Male Mewtwo is the one wearing the scarf, otherwise they’d pretty much be identical aside from I guess the female one had a bit more of a pink tinge to her colouring but not a whole lot, and I guess their voices but you can’t really portray that in comic form

Well, Ash IS the chosen hero of the Pokemon world. Or at least that's what the movies and the show are always alluding to. So Mewtwo being around Ash would be essential at an instinctual and logical basis as well
