This is a commission for White Hawk, of Twilight Spakle after being transformed into a dragon. I tried to go a bit of a different direction than most drawings with it, as well as experimenting with some new background techniques. The lighting is far more complex than in most of my drawings up to this point, for example, the shadows are the correct blue that would be filling in from the sky, rather than just pure black. It's amazing what you learn when you actually study these things, haha
You can also see that I used "tilt shift" in photoshop to blur the bottom 25% or so of the drawing, giving it a somewhat more realistic appearance.
The ocean and sand textures are from cgtextures.com, and I used this wallpaper for come composition and color ideas for the background. I wasn't able to find the original source of this wallpaper (original photographer, for example), and if someone does find it please let me know.

this happens at the very beginning of my fic, as for why i haven't really fleshed out celestia's motivations I had ideas but so far they are: celestia has a kirin fetish, celestia needed to increase twilight power, spike pissed her off, or perhaps celestia was just a bitch, or maybe she got sick of all the friendship letter spam and out of jealousy decided to take two birds out with one stone namely the spammer and the spam machine, or maybe celestia is sadistic or has gone crazy or possessed, heck maybe she's gone full on nightmare sun etc
and as for killing off spike? first rule of story telling "Make your characters suffer!" also maybe i was sick of his episodes and found this a cathartic exercise, just like how i had somepony visit karmic retribution down on diamond tiara having her beaten to within an inch of her life(literally), only being saved by the fact silver spoon protected her/begged for her to be sparred.

True! I noticed that in the sketch stage, but rather than try to shoehorn in eyelashes and a rounded nose I decided to roll with it, since I felt the squarish "more male" forms fit the tone of the piece better. Perhaps the transformation process also made her more masculine ;D

It is certainty a beautiful drawing, but it doesn't feel like Twilight as a dragon, rather just a purple MLP dragon.
