Description Warriors: A Deadly Rivalry

Chapter 3

Blazeheart stared at Frostpelt, waiting for her harsh words that he knew would be about Mistpaw. Just as Frostpelt opened her mouth to speak, a voice was heard from the entrance to the warriors den. “Frostpelt! Coalstar wants to see you in his den.” Frostpelt sighed, “Blazeheart, just get up and hunt, you already wasted half the day.” The white she-cat got up and stalked out of the den. Blazeheart gave a soft hiss of annoyance then turned to face Feathermist, “Fine, I'll hunt with you, but we'd better make it quick. I don't want the kits playing on my rock.” Stonewhisker lifted his head from the back of the den, “You know Blazeheart, You really need to get a hold on your temper. You should consider yourself lucky that Feathermist even wants to be within thirty fox-lengths from you. Your temper is so bad that no other cats ever want to be around you.” Blazeheart hissed again, turning on the old tom, “This is none of your business. I said I was going to go hunting! Stay out of my fur you old mange-pelt!” Without waiting to hear Stonewhisker's reply, Blazeheart stormed out of the den. Feathermist hurried after the angry tom, shooting Stonewhisker an apologetic glance.

It was sunset when the two cats returned, Blazeheart had caught two plump mice and a rabbit. Feathermist had caught a thrush and a fat squirrel. Blazeheart dropped his catches on the fresh-kill pile, then skunked towards his rock. He went closer, only to find Rainfeather's kits playing all over it. Angry, he bounded towards the four kits, “Get off!” They turned to the angry tom with fear in their gazes, Sorrelkit, Juniperkit, Sagekit, and Gin scrambled off the large flat stone and ran wailing to the queens. Sandpelt gave an angry hiss and began padding up to where Blazeheart lay, tail lashing. “Blazeheart! What is the matter with you? Why do you have to throw a fit Starclan forbid every time any cat lays so much as a paw on that stone? They're only kits, they don't know any better!” Frostpelt came towards the corner of the camp where the two cats were arguing, “You know better, Blazeheart. By the way, Coalstar wants you to go to the Gathering, although I don't think you deserve it. All you did was catch three lousy kills all day.” Blazeheart flicked his tail, “I don't want to go.” A deep voice growled from behind them, “Well, you are going, whether you like it or not.” Blazeheart turned to see Coalstar padding to him. “What every cat has been saying is true, you don't contribute enough, Blazeheart, and I'd better see change. You haven't been to a Gathering since you were an apprentice, and that was six moons ago. I've been lenient with you up until now Blazeheart, but that needs to stop. If you don't start cleaning up your act, there will be consequences and punishment for your laziness, is that clear?” Blazeheart flattened his ears, “Fine, I'll go to the Gathering.” Coalstar twitched his whiskers, “That's not enough, Blazeheart, I want you to start joining patrols, hunting, cleaning out dens, socializing with your clan-mates. Everyone has been gentle with you for the past few moons, but you need to move on. You're sulking over Mistpaw's death has gone on for long enough. I am sick and tired of seeing you lay in the back of the clearing all day long. I want to give you one of Rainfeather's kits to mentor soon too, but only if I think you have earned it. I want to see change with you, Blazeheart. Young warriors are very important members of this clan. You were a great tracker and hunter as an apprentice, and I hate to see your skills wasted.” Blazeheart lashed his tail, “Right, the more young warriors you have, the more lives you can waste on your stupid rivalry with Rainstar!” Coalstar let out a long sigh, clearly trying to keep composure, “Our fight with Duskclan has nothing to do with the way you have been acting. Now get up, eat, and get ready for the Gathering. I want you up at sunrise for the dawn patrol. No more sleeping till sunhigh.” Without another word, he stalked off.

It was now moonhigh, Coalstar's voice echoed through the clearing, “Alright, Frostpelt, Graytail, Leafstorm, Dawnbreeze, Feathermist, Dovepaw, Oakpaw, Nightpaw and Blazeheart, lets go.”
