Bulletstorm 2 – Level 3

 

                You start the new level controlling Ishi, rebuilt and directly under the control of General Serano, as he has been given orders to hunt down and kill both Grey and Trishka. He follows them through Jackhammer, examining the trail of destruction they have left behind them and eventually locates the guy from the bar, Motts, the pool shark. While interrogating them he also comes across a contingent of Hogan’s gang who had been off on a job while their base was being ransacked. They lay claim to Grey and Trishka, wanting to take revenge for their fallen brothers, but Ishi walks right through them without any problem.

    He then uses Motts to locate Dovewell’s old clinic, but finds it empty as Dovewell had chosen to follow Grey and Trishka on their journey of revenge (basically deciding that one more adventure was exactly what his old bones needed to shake the rust off and start living again). Through his credit chip (he had paid for Grey and Trishka to spend the night in a hotel while they made preparations to leave the planet, he had also bought a sandwich from the commissary as they finished up the final flight check), Ishi is able to locate where Grey’s new ship is taking off from and rushes through the streets to board it.

    Here the perspective switches back to Grey and Trishka who notice someone forcing open their hanger bay as they breach the atmosphere. Approaching it curiously at first, they are quickly blindsided by Ishi who easily beats them both down. Much ado is made of Grey not wanting to hurt his friend but this is almost instantly rendered moot as he’s pretty much indestructible. Help does come in the form of Dovwell and Chuck who activate the ship’s fire suppression system to momentarily discombobulate Ishi and allow Trishka and Grey to get some distance. From here it’s a cat and mouse game as they use every tool at their disposal to bait Ishi into an airlock, briefly shorting him out with some exposed electrical cords and finally blasting him out into space where he reenters the atmosphere of Jackhammer and crashes to the surface.

    That brush with death behind and even more pissed off at what Serano had done to Ishi, the crew continues on their way to their next destination. Unbeknownst to them, Ishi survived reentry and is now tracking their ship thanks to a bug he left in the cargo bay.

 

Author’s Note: This is basically the reused assets section, a cheap out for the designers, but, a necessary bit for the story I’m trying to craft. The intended draw of the section is two fold: 1- the double act between Ishi and Serano, one being the calm and clinical robot while the other is a verbose, screaming, lunatic who keeps trying to push him towards acts of slaughter and violence, and 2- Ishi is legitimately indestructible, for now. The idea is to put you into that position, feel that power, so that you can better recognize how terrifying it is from the other side.

It’s basically meant to be one of those levels that will either drag as you crawl through each section, play with the guns, murder everyone indiscriminately, or an absolute cakewalk as you negotiate your way to a peaceful resolution (only to have Serano screaming in your ear about what a “Hippie/Peacenik/Cocksucker” you are)
