I must've been around grade 6 or 7 when I first got into Detective Conan. It was my cousin who introduced me to it, when I visited the old relatives back in China.

We snuck over to her friend's house and watched the third movie, and even though I couldn't understand the Chinese sub, I instantly fell for the character of Kaitou Kid. I think, perhaps, for all the hype that the DC story arcs went through, he was my main reason for sticking with the series.

Of course, this was my first experience getting that deep into fandom - I met a lot of talented, intelligent and 'eccentric' people. Even did a whole slew of fanart for them, got my friends into it, made a website that I'm too embarrassed to show to anyone and all that.

I'm not quite sure when it was that I started drifting away, though. Maybe it was when announcements of a dub would be made, or maybe it was when I realized that the plot was dragging on forever, or maybe when it struck me that everyone else was so much closer than I allowed myself to be. If there's one thing about being a fandom nomad I regret, it would be drifting away from these friends I cared about, but never really had the nerve to approach further.

So about a week ago, for some reason, I decided to revisit Detective Conan after finding episodes online. Caught up with the newer Magic Kaitou appearances. Remembered how much I missed it, really, all the fic pics, the lot.

This picture is a piece of closure, for me. I might not be as deep in the fandom anymore, but I'll always love the character. And I wanted to see how much I'd improved, too. Took me ages, but I think it was worth it.

Also, there's probably no one who really cares, but should anyone come across this and want to colour it for some inexplainable reason, please do. Show me the results though, okay?
