A new day dawned on the Indian jungle, another day that found Baloo all by his lonesome. The time he spent with Mowgli had been so short, but so meaningful. He loved him like his own cub. And now…where was he now? Making eyes at some sassy little minx? That little floozy had the kid wrapped around her finger. That was playing dirty. And Bagheera just smiled at it! How could he do that?!
No…he had his reasons. It’s what Little Britches wanted, right? It had to be. There’s no way Mowgli would give up being with his Papa Bear if it wasn’t truly important to him. Baloo sighed heavily, but then began to smile. The mancub was safe, and happy. That’s all that mattered. Of course his Little Britches missed him, but he was where he belonged.
“Forget about your worries…and your strife…” He began to hum to himself. He had taught him the greatest lesson of all, and that was enough. The bear found a tree to scratch his itchy bum on, and let his concerns rub off onto something else.
But in the canopy above, leaves rustled as a serpent slithered closer. Kaa couldn’t believe his luck. That ursine buffoon had walked right up to his tree, the same tree that only a few weeks ago, Kaa had the little morsel in the grasp of his coils. That confounded mancub…Kaa’s little revenge plot could not come sooner.
And it began with the bear. The snake sent his tail down to snatch up the key to his scheme. He would have to do a little coaxing to pull him under his sway, but any animal could be made to see things from Kaa’s perspective, given a little time to hear his thoughts on the matter, and a bit of “colorful” persuasion…
