Dex doesn't really talk. His default expression is basically always something that looks really deadpan or expressionless, but he's actually a pretty swell guy. Just has a really dull resting face, and he averages about four facial expressions a week.
When Dexter DOES talk, it's usually in pretty short, but fairly profound sentences in that unidentifiable, odd little accent of his. When asked about it, he'll gladly tell you where he picked it up. Problem is, the story is different every time. And when he talks, he always speaks so seriously that it's impossible to know if he's lying, speaking fantasy, or telling the truth. Everything out of his mouth sounds the same. Ask him anything, and he'll always gladly answer, but his words are about as trustworthy as Gilligan's fish stories, for better or for worse. They're always entertaining, but often leaves one scratching their head.
Trying to get a true story out of Dex is like herding cats: Nearly impossible to do, but dang fun to watch someone else try.
So go ahead. Try to ask Dex something about himself. About his past. His adventures outside Wynsiph. Why he doesn't speak. He's got a story for everything.
Backstory:
Dexter's egg was found by a foreign couple traveling the kingdoms land on a whim. Thinking it was a rare rock at first, they added it to their collection of keepsakes but were soon proven wrong as it hatched a few days later. Though they were tight on funds, they decided to keep the wyngling and continued to travel around doing their best to take care of the young lad. As the weeks went on it became apparent that they lacked the proper stability the young Dexter needed and, regretfully, decided to leave him in the next town.
Dexter was too young to fully remember everything that happened, but he still holds a fondness for those early memories. Though he doesn't have much to remember them by but he did manage to pick up a peculiar accent that the mysterious couple spoke in.
