Description -2005-

During the 60th anniversary gala, Sir Stephen Topham Hatt had invited engines from the mainland who had appeared in the books by the thin clergyman. One of these engines was 'City of Truro' from the National Railway Museum (NRM) who was restored in the previous year to celebrate the 100th anniversary of his unofficial record run with the Ocean Mails Express, which ran from Plymouth to London Paddington. Although Flying Scotsman, who was also present but not seen and is also owned by the NRM, was the engine that had offically clocked 100mph, the two engines are firm friends. After all Truro has great respect for the LNER since they were the ones who saw him worthy for preservation at their museum in York in 1931, his respect went even further when he was transffered to a shed at Sprouston Station in the Scottish borders during the Second World War. In fact, this would be the last time the two GWR engines have seen each other face to face before Truro's withdrawal from service in 2013.
