Mephiles is a dark entity who looks like Shadow when frozen somewhat. I don't know his role in the 360 game, but I know he was the one who tricked Silver into thinking Sonic was the Iblis Trigger when Mephiles is the trigger himself. I don't know the details, but he kills Silver's longtime friend Blaze the Cat, but in the end, he kills Sonic, making his friends find the Chaos Emeralds and use them to revive Sonic and turn him super to defeat Solaris (Iblis+Mephiles), then put out the Flames of Destruction to make sure the event never really happens.
