Description
Welcome to my ultimate wings tutorial.
This tutorial will demonstrate how I create wings.
Through this tutorial you will learn:
1. How to draw your own digital feather using a mouse or pen tablet.
2. How to sketch out a rough wing outline and feathers.
3. How to position and shade feathers.
4. How to use the burn tool to add depth to a wing.
This tutorial is meant to create a fantasy wing, not a realistic one.
This tutorial is copyright to *thy-darkest-hour
The wings it contains may not be replicated. This tutorial is meant as a guide, not as a means to re-create my wing set. Please don't use it for that purpose.

Hello, I visited your profile to find the image, it seems you haven't credited me for either the hair or the wings in the description. Please add links to both in the description, thanks.Β

I used this to make this feather: fav.me/d6wuz1s
I made it quite a while back (before the submission date on it). I used GIMP 2.7 for it, quite pleased with how it came out. Thank you for the wonderful tutorial :3

Newbie to photoshop (and art in general) and first attempt with photoshop at all...
but followed the tutorial and here's the result - yes, need to try again and have a long, long way to go.

Very nice, I dont care the critiques, this is great & helpful, very realistic.
Just one question: how can you make fluff like, the outer wings near the bone or youngling bird/winged animal?
Thanks

Thank you very much, I'm happy that you think so
The best way to do that is to use a small brush with using a pressure sensitive tablet in varying colors from dark to light.

Thanks, but should I have to use the same technique you use for the feather tutorial?

Of course not, there are many ways to create feathers, that is but one. Back when I created the tutorial I didn't yet have a tablet and I wanted it to be mouse friendly and that is an easy way to do with a mouse.

I've been there, so I completely understand. I once purchased a Photoshop CS book when I had CS4 and well... it didn't go so well I'm really happy to hear that you had a good time making the wings

I used the tutorial to try and learn to make wings and feathers, and once I learn more about the wing structures and how to do different positions, I will really enjoy using this technique! Here, I made this pair of wings, if you would like to see it. [link]

I wish that I did, but its been a long time since I had PS 7, so the only thing I can recommend is maybe google something like 'how to warp in Photoshop 7'
