Description Nuala
Age 7
Autumn, Year 757 of the New Age
Blackwood, Ridgeback Range

Heart racing, legs aching. Faster, faster. Fear is absolute. Escape is impossible. Her knees are bloodied and bruised, she’s fallen more than once. Her pursuer is closing. Faster. Faster. He knows this canyon. He blends in. She is a snowflake in a field of ash. Melting. Fading. Dying.

Nuala raced across the uneven terrain as fast as her spindly legs would carry her; it wasn’t fast enough. The mountain lion had pounced when she was already exhausted, and she had no energy left to flee. He was gaining on her, his paws barely touched the ground, hardly moved a rock. He never slipped, he never fell. She tripped on every rock, slipped on every stone.

The mountain lion lunged and swiped a paw at her rump. Somehow she evaded the swipe of his claws, but her abundance of thick creamy tail did not. His hooked barbs caught in the knotted tendrils and she squealed. Her next bound sent her splashing into a shallow rocky river, and as her feet hit the streambed and the lion yanked on her tail, she fell again. For the last time.

Her ankle buckled, pitching her forward into the water head-first. Her knees hit the uneven surface, splitting open already torn skin. There was nothing to stop her nose splashing into the water and hitting the bottom hard enough to stun. She crumpled, and the weight of the cougar as it pounced was crushing. She couldn’t lift her head from the water, the shallow rapids raced by and stole her breath.

She kicked and she struggled but she knew, with an undeniable inevitability, that she was about to die. Her last thought as the mountain lion’s heavy paw moved to pin her neck for his final bite, was that at least everything would stop hurting.

Not a collab for once! Took me long enough >.> Thanks for everyone who popped into my JMs and kept me sane whiel I worked on those rocks. They took far to much time than they should.

SO.

Two things to learn, ladies and gentlefawns. Number one, Princesses are not for Royal Guards, and creamies should not flee like fleeing fleers into Blackwood.

SpiritShe didn’t stop running until the Great Oak was in sight, and even then she only stopped because she could run no more. She had come here thinking it was the only safe place left for her. Her heart was throbbing from the run, chest heaving with the effort. Tears had dried on her cheeks as she ran. The panic and fear had not abated, but she could hardly feel anything. Shock was setting in, dulling her senses and making it impossible to think. Her mind was almost a total blank. And right now, a blissful blank was more comforting than anything.
Nuala came stepping over the roots, scuffing her cloven hooves on almost every one. Her feet felt so heavy. Why were they so heavy? She stopped and stared at them, unthinking, uncaring.
“Nuala!” The harsh voice cut through her silent bliss and she flinched. Looking up, she saw the broad chestnut stag with those unmistakable antlers trotting towards her. He was tall and magnificent and noble. Another day she would have cared. Anoth  < Previous | Next >   AfterlifeThe afterlife was calm, soft voices and soft fur. She was a fawn again, curled at her mother’s side. It had been the only time in her life she was truly safe, when the lies were not real, so it seemed fitting she would dream of it now she was with Óganach. She would nuzzle into the soft fur and dream of times that seemed so long ago, when she was alive and free. This afterlife was beautiful and comforting, but she could never leave.
The angel, her mother, Áillte’s shadow was always there, watching over her and singing sweet lullabies. She would fall into those loving eyes and dream. Often they would speak, though about what she could not recall. It was not the topic that was important, it was the sweet cadence of her words, the murmur of assurance and love.
Sometimes she would have a dream of a cold dark cave that smelt of lions and herbs and someone she did not know. But before she could be scared, mother would wake her from the dream and she would be blissfu
