Character belongs to Reptek

Ever since I saw this character drawn by Saint-Edge and the original drawing done by Reptek of him, I knew I got to try and draw him on the skill I have now!

It felt so great during the process! I wanted to do the burly body like Saint-Edge's drawing, that body type is the perfect range that I like about drawing muscle dudes, but I went for the one drawn by owner as it seems right for the character. I changed the number of his toes from four to three the same as my dragons and I added eye bags because why not. I've getting my hands to go nude and show my level of anatomy, refs mostly from muscle artist here and little bit in charts, It was rocky just to get everything right but Im happy how I come so far!

Then the colors, I given Ryu an off white scales than pure white and it seems to be working for Ryu to really pop. I colored in his biceps the same color as his chest to segment his body more from the white. Theres a hint of yellowish glow near his biceps and the edges of his pecs to the tip of his tail are, this similar to original drawing. His eyes now has a white cornea from his pupil slit thingy.

I colored his chest like the owner's drawing, a mix of yellow and black but having a greenish tone and gaussian blurred it, in which I see as the color of having cosmic powers inside Ryu's body showing that inside him is has his own stars and galaxies. It was fun using the noise and crystalize option in photoshop.

For his wings, horns, claws, and the jewel on his chest, I wanted to apply that white sheen as seen from Saint-Edge's but to cut it for time. I adjusted the colors, applied noise for crystalize to work properly. I like to imagine Ryu's wings can dissipate when he's not flying and everytime he moves there are little sparkles if you rotate him on the crystalized colors. I lessened abit of the horns on his tail.

On the original drawing has bullet notes of Ryu's powers to control light and darkness. In this pic, he's showing them off USING 0.000001% of his power. I interpret blue as dark that corresponds to Ryu's blue downward horns and for red as light with the upward horns. The symbols are based on his horns and both having a small horn to represent the middle violet horn. Originally there was suppose to be geometric end trails coming out of the orbs but can't seem to it right, so generic smoke for now.

Hoo! A Long desription to really smooth out my thoughts! I was gitty when thinking what to add and tweak about Ryu's design during the end of August and I'm happy reptek liked it! As I read to the bullet points from original drawing, I learned that Ryu likes reading and having a good fight, wouldn't you know it, I've doodled some of those so you may see Ryu in the future! Also, it's been a long time I used the title "Attempting to Draw"

So, new artwork for September 2020! It's the Ber months and I have already a new line of a series I want to revisit and tackle again to draw so heads up for that!
