Description
This image is is the final render of a tutorial that is located to the right as a download. It is a tutorial for DAZ Studio on using UberSurfaceShader with your characters skin. It's the first part of a series where we will be wrking on ALL the materials in the scene, not just the skin. It'also includes all the details of the lighting for the scene.
I've hit a document limit in Photoshop so I've had stop at this point of the tutorial and will be carrying on with the rest once I am done posting this. Part two will be up when it finished, or when I hit the limit again for the next part.
Save your scene once you have followed the tutorial though because you will need it for the next parts, then have a play with the settings in you might have learned about in a second save of the scene for experimenting with, such as changing a few colours, strengths etc to get a feel for it all, but you will need to save original for the rest of the tutorial.
This tutorial is aimed at people who are new to using UberSurfaceShader and want too see what some of it settings and options do.
Please feel free to drop any critique or comments on the tutorials as it is my first DAZ Studio tutorial.

I honestly have no clue what the difference is between USS (UberSurface Shader) and HSS (HumanSurface Shader), and why they even came up with two when we only need one lol.

USS is the bigger, better brother of HSS. It gives all of the same effects as the HSS, but with a few more bells and whistles. I never even touch HSS, I just use USS as I think its better to have the extras and not need to use them, than it is to apply HSS only to find I need something from USS and then have to load it and re-do all my settings.

For now. Just try droping Lana's lip spec maps, and up the strength, try gloss at about 20-25. Make sure you have spec light hitting her lips for the best effect. I will try and cover this more in the next part of the tut and see how else we can bring more life to her lips, using the Spec 2 channel and blurred reflections! Oh dear! I have said too much!

Ok, I only had her lips selected and didn't even see any spec maps? Wouldn't they have been in the spec strength channel. Or, did I not see any cause I didn't apply USS? LOL and no you didn't say too much, hurry hurry hurry on that tutorial. And kick Thyrang for me too, where's his?

I think her spec maps should load in with her, but it might be one of her material options that does it. If my memory serves right, Lana should load up with USS already applied to her and a few settings allready applied. It's been forever since I actualy loaded her as a fresh start, asI dont use her base mats anymore. I use a set that I have done all kinds of work too in Photoshop, and spent forever tweaking her settings for my characters like Poppy and Tasha who both use Lana as their base mats.
The best shot to see what I mean is a nudey I have of them both [link] They have the same mats(except for Poppy's star tattoos, but they are on the same texture as Tasha's) but have different skin tones. I'll explain how/why in the tutorial and little more and in the other reply I have from you where you asked about it.

No worries, glad to help and I am sure wolfie is too. I learnt a whole bunch fro him so you are in good hands and it's nice to hear from two different people and how they do things because it gives you more options, ideas and processes to play with.
I am working on part two as I type this and I am just waiting for a render to complete. So far, in this one I have covered USS for eyes, and I am just starting lips to see what we can do there. Still lots of room before I hit my document size so it looks like we might have enough space to get skin tones in too. It will be up later today.

It's just from her meshing deforming a little due to the pose, but the tutorial is all about skin not posing...thank god!
