Well, honestly, what was he expecting? It's one thing to declare, "I'm going to join the Avatar." It's another thing to get him to let you stick around after you've made several months' favorite hobby of trying to bag him like a gopher-rabbit.
All joking aside, I'm so proud of Zuko I could burst (always knew he had it in him), and I can't wait to see how he integrates into the new Gaang Plus. I just...won't be too surprised if this is how it goes at first, you know?
(One week later...
Toph: Argh, is he still there? Can't we just land already?
Sokka: Toph, you know we can't go to ground until we know there are no Fire Nation troops after us. If they find out our hiding place, we're done for!
Teo: Aw, but he's so pathetic!
Zuko: *far in the distance, flailing after them in his little balloon* Pleeeeeeeeeeeeease! Waaaaaaaaait!
Katara: Hmph. You don't know him like we do, Teo. Trust me--he is a master of deceit. *headtoss*

I would certainly not rule the doomstache out as a credible deformity, but it is at least easily fixed. We already know Aang has a razor. ^_^
Friendshipping will be excellent! I'm strongly looking forward to seeing how Toph and Teo get along, personally (speaking of "deformities").

I still enjoyed his mortification though. And Katara was right- he SO must have needed a shower.
The depth! The drama! Now all we need is Zuko to attack Aang, then sneak BACK to the Fire Nation and dress up his father like him (cut his hair etc) and wait for PMSing Katara during a full moon to arrive and bloodbend the crap out of Ozai, thinking he's our dear Zuzu.

yeah, that's true... but Toph hasn't really meet zuko properly yet and iroh already said they're a lot alike... so i pretty sure she'll kick his ass (just to show who's boss) then make friends with him. i can see him making friends with the Duke too- but if his first gaang friend is Haru, i have to kill- not me, but maybe him.
