The art rocks, that's a given, but... what struck me here is the dialog. I can HEAR Cullen & Welker when I read this - which, to me, is proof that the author has these characters down.

Megatron and Optimus, having a relatively civil conversation. Very nice.

I can't help but feel that this looks like the setting of Optimus Primes and Megatrons final battle in the TF: G1 Movie from so long ago.

'in this reality'
A reminder that reality is formed by ones choices and how those choices act upon others.
Excellent work all around.

Holy crap, this one is epic in so many ways! Art, story, dialogue, this one is just gorgeous in all respects! I do think this deserves a place amongst my favorite Mosaics.

Comparing this to Dreamwave is an insult to the creators of this fine Mosaic.

Most popular? Not by a long shot. I liked Brad Mick but they were far from popular, and they recycled dialogue from the 86 movie way too much. And Pat Lee's artwork was crap.
Furman's -Ation series during his run at IDW was far more popular.

Very few mosaics here impress me. This is the first that actually impressed me enough to leave a commentary.

So much of TF fiction is simply one guy fighting the other, nice to see some thought go into the deeper meaning behind what they do!~ (not that there is anything wrong with a fun fight scene )

Wow, "you've long forgotten the difference", that line I think sums up Megatron's modevations more than anything. My God was that cosmic.

Great style and dialog. It's so good, I couldn't resist the urge to imitate their voices and read this aloud.

I don't know why, but two small words caught my attention above all, and I can't say for sure just why...
"old friend"
... makes one wonder, if the war were different, or even weren't there at all, just what the two sides and their leaders might be, might act, with regard to each other...

I've read the Transformers Novel "Transformers: Exodus" and in it is the scene where Orion Pax is recognized as being the next Prime. Before this scene, Pax has been at Megatrons side the whole way through his movement. As they progressed, half of their supporters joined because of Pax and the others joined because of Megatron. Pax's acceptance of the bestowing of the title "Prime" is what ultimately caused the split and an angered Megatron to declare him an enemy.
Now, after reading this in novel form, I have often wondered what would have happened if Orion Pax had refused the title of Prime. What if he had realized that accepting it would only caused the forming of the factions and lead to the great war? By remaining beside Megatron, could he have perhaps done more good? His refusal of Prime would be a great showing of his belief in Megatron and coused Megs to trust him more than he already did at the time. Perhaps he could have remained as Megatrons conscience. He was already sort of playing that role in the first place before he became Prime in the novel. By staying with Megatron, he might have been able to help him bring about the vision they both sought in a better way. Helping to show Megatron when a lighter touch was needed. Because after that, Megs really didn't have anything holding him back.
Though this is all based on a single book. The telling is but one interpretation of the events before the great war. Don't know if someone has done this setting before but I think it could certainly be interesting.

Well, in the better continuities, despite having polar opposite philosophies, they've almost always held some form of mutual respect for each other. That's a dynamic I love to see in play.

Indeed. It adds a layer of depth and, well, "humanity", for lack of a better term, rather than having them be soulless cardboard cutouts playing the role of "good" or "evil" simply because of the dictations given by the plot.

Well, in some continuities, Optimus and Megatron would've lived at a time before the war, may have even been friends. Optimus called Megatron "brother" in the '07 TF movie. But just like Skyfire and Starscream, once they picked opposite sides...
Nice mosaic! Art really goes well with the story.
