Description To all my fellow artblocked, stumped, and confused artists, here's a kinda long guide on how to work around your stumps! And it's also basically the answer to why some artists are good/awesome and how you can work your way to become as good/awesome/even better than them!

Some works used in this aren't mine and are used for reference purposes and are credited as such.

Keep practicing yo! and excuse my writing

EDIT: Holy man, thanks so much EeNii and Elandria !

CallunaDraconis In reply to ??? [2014-07-02 20:17:09 +0000 UTC]

I know I know, especially with anatomy things reference is pretty crucial but it feels so wrong to take a photo and practically copy it just to add your own details on it :C

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

trisketched In reply to CallunaDraconis [2014-07-03 02:19:34 +0000 UTC]

Well, there's a difference between practically copying and basing off of a drawing. I know a lot of artists who use not just one, but multiple photo references for one drawing but in the endΒ it all depends on how the artist interprets the references.Β

Art inspires art and it may feel wrong for some, but I look at it as being inspired

I think, you should maye emphasize credit a little. I mean, all this information is really great and helpful but even photography is someone else's art and should be credited as well. I'd be pretty pissed if someone reffed my stuff without asking (haha, too bad nobody would... Good for me I suck )

Otherwise, I loved this a lot. It was very comical and entertaining to read.

I meant, put more emphasis to tell others to give credit when using refs. Sorry if that wasn't clear. But now I see. Thanks!

XP felt silly to always think that way. I always wanted to create original stuff,
that's why i avoid referencing from other artist.
Shall build up my "Visual Library" now!

I like how you point the difference between copying for reference and copying to steal. It's a very hard thing that people often mix.

You know I use reference all the time. Whenever I don't use reference my pictures look really shitty. I'm really proud of you for making this! I think the fact that people say you shouldn't use bases and line etc. is also bumb. Some people create really good art with bases and line art so I don't care what people say I think people should make art however works for them!

Yeah but that doesn't mean to literally steal other's artwork, claim as their own, and repose it.
