Description
This one took some actual thinkwork. Thinkwork is probably what is needed right now.Moscow has shameful origins. Kiev doesn't. Moscow's hatred for Kiev has existed since the early days of Muscovy, i.e. 'tsarist Russia'. Slander campaigns accusing Kiev of sleeping with the enemy, i.e. the Evil West, of at least 600 years old can be found in Russian libraries. The current propaganda 'about decent Orthodox Russians' being murdered, raped, oppressed, discriminated against, and forced to accept doctrines which they reject are absolutely nothing new. It is literally an over half millennium old narrative. No Russian ruler would have ever even dreamt of laying siege to the partly loved and partly hated city though. No matter how warped Muscovy's claims, it was still the holy city, the cradle not only of the medieval state of Kievan Rus, but also of the entire Christianity of the east. To attack it would be like thrusting a lance straight through the heart of the Holy Virgin. Most likely the gravest mistake imaginable, in terms of both earthly and divine consequences.
