Description
Money on Bodor is handled both physically and electronically. For those of the Worker class, physical currency is used on a day-to-day basis. Physical currency takes the form of metal coins. The base unit is the Aureun (plural form: Aureus), a round silver coin 31mm in diameter.Coins come in different sizes, materials and shapes based on their value:
1/100 Aureun coin: hexagonal, 19mm x 1.5mm (silver), 0.45g in weight
1/20 Aureun coin: octagonal, 21mm x 1.56mm (silver), 0.57g in weight
1/10 Aureun coin: round, 24mm x 1.62mm (silver), 0.78g in weight
1/4 Aureun coin: hexagonal, 26mm x 1.68mm (palladium), 1.09g in weight
1/2 Aureun coin: octagonal, 28mm x 1.74mm (palladium), 1.3g in weight
1 Aureun coin: round, 31mm x 1.8mm (palladium), 1.65g in weight
5 Aureus coin: hexagonal, 33mm x 1.8mm (gold), 3.11g in weight
10 Aureus coin: octagonal, 35mm x 1.86mm (gold), 3.61g in weight
20 Aureus coin: round, 38mm x 1.92mm (gold), 4.39g in weight
50 Aureus coin: hexagonal, 41mm x 2.04mm (platinum), 5.85g in weight
100 Aureus coin: octaognal, 44mm x 2.1mm (platinum), 6.94g in weight
1000 Aureus coin: round, 49mm x 2.16mm (platinum), 8.85g in weight
Individual costs are expressed verbally like these examples:
(an item costs 3 Aureus and 1 tenth Aureun and 2 one-hundredth Aureun) “That’ll be three point twelve.”
(an item costs 25 Aureus and 1 half Aureun) “That’s twenty-five point five, please.”
For the average Worker, the platinum coins are almost never seen. A single 1000 Aureus coin would be the equivalent of an entire year's wages. For the average citizen, most transactions involve the copper and silver coins, and only rarely are the gold coins seen or used.
Citizens routinely use the gold and platinum coins as part of their superior pay and lifestyle.
Electronic transfers can only be done for transactions above 1000 Aureus. Such electronic transfers require an ID card along with biometric security validation. ID cards are tied to the user’s account, and transactions are debited from that account. If the user has multiple accounts, he or she must have multiple ID cards (one for each account).
Off-worlders are not allowed to carry Aureun coins or make electronic transfers. Instead, they must convert what money they have into paper script known as Credits. Conversion costs 0.1% of the value of the Credits to be created. Reconversion from Credits to the original currency costs another 0.1% of the value to be converted. Credits can be for any denomination, and must be pre-purchased on arrival and exchanged back prior to departure.
