Description While there are other sports on Bodor (Hyperball and Scrap War being quite popular), none of them have the same draw as the Deathmatch Games. From the opening ceremony on Ravady 6 of Ekispa to the Closing Ceremony on Ravady 18 of Barapa, billions of Bodorians tune in to watch teams of gladiators fight to the death. Military and Paramilitary organizations across the galaxy also tune in so see what new weapons are on offer from the galaxy's premier source of artificial super-soldiers.

When originally created, ten corporations fielded teams in the games. In the modern era, ten teams still compete, but only three companies are involved. The teams, their rosters, and the sponsoring companies are:

DYNAMIC DEVELOPMENTS
Team Scratch: Claude, Leona, Felicia (Dynamic Developments)
Green Machine: Vinca, Jondis, Verdegris (Algernon Agricultural)
Team 2morrow: Captain Fantastic, Starlet, Bombastique (Eugenics Incorporated)
The Dogs of War: Odysseus, Boudica, Zenobia (Wellington Industries)

GOTH-TECH
Team Kickback: Sapphire, Ruby, Trust (Goth-Tech)
The Nightmare League: Skulk, Chitter, Wretch (Violation Pharmaceutical)
The Witches of Id: Lunatique, Shadeaux, Synn (Psyche Management Services)
Monstruoso: Vlad, Euthanasia, Sinistra (D.N.I. Chemical)

NEURONIC ARTS
The Terminators: Maxwell, Woo, Juan (Neuronic Arts)
Tesla Company: Tin Man, Robotrix, 1G0R (CyberSecure Systems)

In the early decades of the games, who would win a given season was very much a toss-up. Today, odd-makers routinely only mention three names: Team Scratch, Team Kickback and the Terminators. Other teams occasionally take the top spot, but that is far less common. This is simply because those three teams are considered the "signature" team for the sponsoring company. More money is spent on developing and improving just one of those three than the remaining seven combined.

Each "season" consists of a round-robin style system of matches, where each team fights every other team one time. Match-ups are cycled to allow each team some downtime (to affect repairs, make upgrades, or replace dead gladiators). Each match between two teams is held on the evening of each Ravady. An individual match consists of three 1v1 fights. Each fight continues until someone submits, is rendered unable to fight, or is killed. The gladiator still standing at the end of the fight is the winner. The team that has the most wins at the end of the match is declared the overall winner, and earns a point for their team.

At the end of a season, the team with the most points is declared the winner, and featured prominently during the closing ceremony. In the case of a tie, a final play-off match is held. If a winner still can't be determined by a final match, those of the Worker and Citizen classes cast votes to determine the winner.

Betting on the Deathmatch Games is illegal, though this stops no one and is barely enforced by the Domestic Security Force. The DSF will step in if illegal betting becomes too obvious or starts causing civil disturbances. Private Corporate Security is far more proactive, and cracks down hard on illegal gambling discovered within their jurisdiction. Bodor has no authority to police gambling that goes on beyond their borders, but they make their displeasure regarding it very obvious (this does almost nothing to curb it).

Proposals have been made to allow gladiator teams originating from outside Bodor to compete, but the Corporate Council isn't interested in altering what they view as a profitable display of their planet's products. Bodor has counter-proposed the formation of a Galactic Gladiatorial Contest for all the Neutral Worlds to compete in. So far, no one is willing to spend the money to make the idea viable, and no one can agree on what the rules would be.
