To me, Maedhros is more like a comet but not only fire.
He chased behind those he didnβt willing to chase, just like a comet passing close to the sun. The more they are closer,the more the comet hurts.
And a comet whichβs predicted to be the brightest, eventually burning into dust and disappeared.
