Oliver was standing in the corner of the party, casually drinking a cup of water. This wasn't normally his kind of scene, however, he made it a goal to try new things even if he thought he wouldn't enjoy it. Unluckily for the buck, this would go on the list of things he wasn't enjoying. The extra cherry on the discomfort pie was the fact he didn't want to up and leave and appear rude to the host.
So, Oliver was primarily keeping to himself, just counting the minutes until it would be appropriate to leave. As he waited however, the buck would be approached by another party goer, an owl woman.
"What are you doing tucked away from everyone?" she asked with a chuckle, taking a swig of her drink. "The party is downstairs!"
"I'm just not the mass socializing type I guess." the buck gave a weak laugh. "Never done a party to this scale before so I wanted to try it at least once to see if I liked it." he took a small sip. "And tonight I learned I don't."
"So why are you still here then?"
"It's rude to leave a party early! And I like the host, I don't want her to think I don't appreciate her invite." he shook his head. "I'm just rambling about my problems at this point even though you don't even know my name. I'm Oliver."
"I'm the one who's asking you the questions so you're not really to blame here." the owl chuckled. "I'm Genevieve."
"That's a pretty name, I like that."
"I chose it for a reason." she winked.
"Is that not your real name?" Oliver asked curiously.
"There's arguments for and against it, but that's neither here nor there." Genevieve shook her head. "I'm much more interested in you."
"M-me? What's interesting about me to you, you barely know me!"
"That's just it, the mystery of it all, the lack of any kind of connection." the owl responded. "It's...tempting."
"Tempting?" Oliver rose an eyebrow. "What are you getting at?"
"Yes, I haven't done it for a while, but this setting just makes it too tempting to not."
"I have to be honest Genevieve, I'm really lost on what you're trying to imply here." Oliver frowned.
'Oh, nothing for you to worry about, I'm just thinking out loud." she responded. "And you know what? I think I AM going to commit! No one's around and there's a great balcony where I won't be bothered while I do."
"That's...great." Oliver gave a forced smile. "But you know, I think I should be going. Get home before it gets too dark!"
"But I thought you didn't want to be rude by leaving early? And it's already nighttime, the sun isn't going to be showing up for a lot of hours."
"I just think I should go!" Oliver went to walk off, however, found is body suddenly frozen in place.
"Oh no, I don't think so." Genevieve shook her head, sending transformative waves through the buck's body. "Not before I'm done with you!"
Oliver's mouth couldn't move, nor his body as it rapidly changed. His body started becoming much thinner, akin to the size of a pencil. His head pushed inward along with his legs for his body to become completely equal in width. Afterwards, the buck's legs became one as they merged together. It didn't take long for his arms to join in on this as they merged with his torso.
Oliver's fur was rapidly shedding, revealing a white, flammable body underneath. His muzzle shrank down as his face became flat, all while he lost all of his facial features vanished into his changing body. Oliver's ears and antlers both quickly followed in suit. The coloration of what was once his head turned orange while the rest of the body was white.
The insides of his body rapidly changed, becoming more flammable, especially at the tip as nicotine filled the staff. Oliver's body rapidly shrank down, becoming mere inches long and less than that in width. With that, the buck had been reduced to nothing more than a simple cigarette.
Oliver's changed body fell to the ground on the top of the pile of his former clothing, of which Genevieve walked over and picked the cigarette up. "I haven't had a smoke in ages, especially a fresh one. Let's see how good you came out." and with that, she sauntered over the balcony, transforming an unfortunate party guest who was just coming out of the bathroom into a lighter to use that she promptly caught mid-air before it hit the ground.
Once Genevieve was out, she stuck Oliver in her beak and rose the lighter up to the tip, covering the flame with her hand as she lit the end of it, taking a puff out of Oliver. "It's like going back to the nineties." Genevieve laughed to herself as she pulled Oliver out, holding it between her fingers and leaning against the railing as she blew out a cloud of smoke.
As each bit of Oliver burned away, more of his memories became apart of that smoke dissipated in the air. The first bits were minor details, but as more of Oliver's body burned away, the memories being lost were grander. First his old body, then his old identity, and lastly his ability to think. The only thing in the cigarettes' mind was the need to be smoked, and once that was all done, there was nothing left of Oliver.
Genevieve took one final puff of the cigarette before pressing the tip of it into the ashtray on the balcony, putting out the light and leaving the cigarette in there. "Can't second guess yourself about leaving the party early now." the owl chuckled. "Then again, I suppose in a way you did! How rude of you! Don't worry, I won't tell. It'll be our little secret." Genevieve smirked. "What am I doing, having a conversation with some old smoked cigarette? Not like there's anything left to even understand what I'm saying!"
