Description ARRRGH! O_o

never again!

I hate working with tutorials althought I LOVE helping people, so NO I don't have any problems at all xD
Its story about "how Grypwolf does shading". enjoy..... if you can. ( and sorry about traumatic english I used there xD)

edit:
and I almost forgot! This shading style works in photoshops of all kind and with Paint Tool Sai. Don't know about paintshop pro or Paint thought....

I worked with this tutorial while drawing this picture:

This was very helpful!
I have a question though, when you select it did you manually redraw the lines or something else? And does it de-select automatically once you inversed the selection or what you did?
Thanks again!

Vooron In reply to FallenCoconut [2011-10-06 17:56:55 +0000 UTC]

Manually redraw the lines? what you mean? O_o it is not supposed to delete any lines!
and no it won't automaticly de-select it after you inverse it Or atleast it shouldn't do that

FallenCoconut In reply to Vooron [2011-10-06 19:56:01 +0000 UTC]

I know, but when you outlined it does it outline automatically or do you outline it yourself? Because wouldn't it take awhile to outline it yourself?

Ok ^^ Thanks~

i still don't understand how you make it all look so sharp, my art is very cheaply shaded because i don't know how to do professional shading. I do have a tablet now and try harder to do art but its very tedious since i don't want to ruin a piece, if you could give me just some basic pointers it would greatly help.

Vooron In reply to Zonida [2011-08-16 05:03:48 +0000 UTC]

well... To make shading look sharp you should use only hard round brushes when erasing/drawing shading. and after your image is done, try filter --> sharpen ---> smart sharpen. That way you can have sharper lines/shadings/details etc and this is if you are using photoshop.

This is intensely well-detailed and helped me understand shading a lot more, but I don't have Sai sadly.. Hoping to maybe save some sort of Christmas money or something, but most of the time I'm broke. XD
Most of my work is done with the mouse in Paint.. Too bad Paint sucks. >w>
But that's beside the point. This is one of the best tutorials for pretty much anything I've ever seen.. Good job! ^^ (and I like the way the final picture came out. 8D)

Thanks so much for this. I just put PS Elements on my computer... and now I'm stuck. What to do next? I've got line drawings that I'll scan in, but after that I'm not sure what to do. This will help enormously! Can't thank you enough!

I have a question: What if you don't have a light source?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Vooron In reply to Psycho-Owl [2011-07-11 12:52:07 +0000 UTC]

What you mean? give me an example.

You see... There is always somekind of a light source unless the place where your object/characters stands is bitch black. Even if u are in a room where light comes out everywhere, that means there is a light sourse ( all around you). you just have to make shading there where light can't come. Also if your character is in a dark room, or in a wooden box, its unlikely that the place is completely sealed of light. There are little holes in boxes/rooms where light can come in.

If your character is in bitch black area... well I would probably leave the picture black or something xD

Psycho-Owl In reply to Vooron [2011-07-11 14:39:28 +0000 UTC]

lol XD yeah that did help, but im saying like if you were making a character ref sheet or something. does that mean you just choose a random lighting position, since its not really at a place XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Vooron In reply to Psycho-Owl [2011-07-11 18:26:28 +0000 UTC]

Thats right I always choose the most easiest way of making shading when it comes to REfs. I mean References are meant to be somewhat simple and easy to understand
