I looked to see the boy flung into the water. I ran over to the edge of the water to see him getting up. He had some cuts and bruises forming on him. He looked at me.
"Stupid crepper," he whispered. "I didn't even notice it."
"Are you okay?" I asked, worried.
"Yeah. I'm fine. Get me some bread from the bag," he told me. Then, he began getting out of the water and I walked over to the bag and looked inside. Then, I pulled out a small loaf of bread and gave it to him. He took it and sat on the grass, eating it.
"Thanks," he said after eating it. "Sorry for scaring you like that. I should've noticed it coming."
"Those things are quiet. So, you don't notice until it's too late," I said, observing from what had happened. He nodded.
"I usually don't get caught by those things so easily. It's been a while since one blew up that close to me. I thought I was done for," he told me. "I usually keep my guard up for any of the hostile things around here."
"It was the same way back at my old home. But everything there other than maybe the zombie pigmen seemed to be hostile. But they do gang up if you hurt one of their friends," I told him. "So, I'm used to having to stay on guard in places. But I didn't stay as on guard just then and I could've helped you if I did."
"It's okay. I didn't pay attention either so it's my fault," he told me. Then, he got up.
"How about we go back to the house," he said. I nodded and got up, gathering everything together into the bag. We walked back to the house and when we got inside we stored everything in the chest. I sat on the steps couch and the boy sat beside me.
"I just realized that I never asked you your name," he told me. "I'm Blake."
"The name's Scarlet," I told him.
"Like the color of the streak in your hair," he said and I nodded and the then I sighed.
"You know I can't stay here long. They're bound to find me and take me back," I said.
"I know. That's why we're going to break down this house and leave this place," he told me. Then, he got up and looked out the glass window.
"We'll be on the run from those whither skeletons and other things. But we should make it.... I hope," he said, whispering the last part. I nodded, quietly. Then, I noticed the sun was going down.
"I'm going to bed. I'll see you in the morning," he said and I nodded.
"Goodnight," I said before going upstairs and setting everything down. I can't go back... not yet. I thought. Then, I looked out the window at the night world before going to sleep.
