"Scarlet, wake up," I heard Blake say as I woke up. I got up off the bed and looked around. We were still safe.
"It looks like they headed out. But they're stuff is still here so they're just keeping this as a safe house I guess," he said. "We need to head out." I nodded.
"Okay," I said. I got up and grabbed my bag as well as my bow and arrows. We ran out of the underground tunnel to the outside.
"We should be all good. It's day time," said Blake and I nodded, pushing my bangs out of my eyes. I looked over at Blake and he nodded. We started to continue on with out trek away from the enemy in the neather. We started going towards the hills, talking along the way.
"They had time to catch up with us since we stopped," I said and he nodded.
"Yeah. Whoever they sent after you ought to be on our tail. They may be caught off guard by how we disappeared," he said.
"Well, we may see soon enough," I said and then I heard an explosion and heard a cry.
"Let's go," said Blake and I nodded. We ran over to the scene. The I saw a familiar face kneeling on the ground with a hole in front of him.
"Kai," I said. I ran over to him. He had cuts and some burns from the explosion.
"You okay?" I asked and he nodded.
"Yeah. I'm fine. I just got jumped by a creeper," he said before getting up with a slight hiss. Blake walked over.
"We just saw the explosion and wanted to see what happened. It's good to see that you're okay," he said and Kai nodded.
"Yeah. I'm fine. I just have some bruises," replied Kai. "What brings you two out here?"
"We're still on the move," I said.
"What from? Is there someone after you?" he asked, his eyes narrowing. I looked at Blake and we nodded.
"Well, let's just say I'm an escapee from the neather and someone wants me back there," I said and Kai nodded.
"I see. Well, I guess I'm not the only one then," he said and my eyes widened.
"Wait, they're after you as well?" I asked, surprised. He looked at the ground and nodded.
"Yeah. I escaped a few weeks back and they're out to get me. I thought I had heard that they were after someone else recently," he said. "I guess that was you?" I nodded.
"Yep. I just barely got out of there with Blake's help," I said and he nodded. Then, he looked at me.
"Could we all possibly travel together? We're all on the run from the same person," he said and I looked at Blake. He was wondering the same thing I was. But he did help us from that creeper before and we were all on the run from the same person. Blake nodded and I nodded back.
"Sure," I said and we shook hands.
"Thanks. It's nice having others to be with," he said with a smile. I smiled back and looked at Blake. He had a bit of a look of uncertainty on his face, but he didn't say anything. I was a bit worried about this too. But he was one of us, an escapee. So, with that we kept on going. We walked up the mountain until we got to a field on the top. Then, I saw something and smiled. Blake and Kai seemed to have the same thought.
"Hey. There's horses," said Kai and I nodded. Then, he reached into his bag and pulled out three of something we could use.
"You want to go for a ride?" he asked us before tossing each of us a saddle. We ran over to the horses.
"I'm taking the black horse," I said walking up to it. I gave it some wheat and it neighed at me. I smiled and petted it before saddling it up. It was rather patient as I did so. Then, I pulled myself up onto her back.
"You ready girl?" I asked and she neighed. I looked to see that Blake and Kai were already on their horses.
"You two ready?!" I called to them and they nodded. Then, we set off down the mountain our horses going at full speed. I smiled, the breeze blowing my hair behind me.
"This is a lot faster than trying to climb down ourselves!" I called over to Blake and he nodded. Kai was smiling as well as we raced down the hillside. Soon, enough we were on flat ground and racing across the field. Soon, enough Blake motioned for us to stop and I whispered to my horse. She slowed to a stop and I slid off.
"Good job girl," I said, rubbing her, before going over to Kai and Blake.
"What's up?" I asked.
"I just felt that we were far enough for now. How about we start setting up a temporary place so we don't have a repeat of last night," Blake told me and I nodded.
"I'll go get some wood," said Kai and I nodded. He ran off toward the woods.
"Okay. Well, I'm going to go hunt some food. We don't want to be going hungry," I said, with a smile and blake nodded.
"Then, I'll start building and watch camp. I'm going to be putting up a torch for you to remember where it's at," he said and I nodded.
"Okay. I'll be back in a bit," I said before running off until I wasn't that far from a heard of cows," I ducked down behind a hill and pulled out my bow. I quietly pulled an arrow out of my bag and put it on the string. Then, I looked to see which would go first. Once I picked my target I pulled back my bowstring and squinted my eyes. Seconds later I let go and watched the flaming arrow hit one of the cows and it fell to the ground, becoming beef. The other animals looked at it in horror and then I began rapid firing. One by one I took out five more cows. The other animals were in turmoil and panic. I ran into the madness and grabbed the pieces of beef, avoiding getting trampled by the other animals. Then, I dashed out of the madness and ran through the grass over to Blake. He had already gotten much of the place done. He looked up when he heard my footsteps.
"Dang. You're a mess," he said and I looked to see that my clothes were dusty and had a bit of blood on them. I blushed slightly in embarrassment.
"Did you get food?" he asked and I reached into my bag to pull out five steaks. He took them from me and put them in the furnace to cook.
"Kai's still out gathering wood if you want to go help him. I'm beginning to run low," he told me and I nodded. I walked over to the woods and saw the wood pile that Kai had already gathered up. He walked out of the woods just as I walked up to it with a armful of wood pieces in his arms.
"Hey. Did you already gather food?" he asked and I nodded.
"Yeah. Beef is cooking back at the place. I'm going to take some of this back to Blake. He says he's starting to run low. The place is looking good," I told him and he nodded.
"Okay. Hey, how much more wood do you think we'll need?" he asked.
"Not much more," I said before picking up some of the wood.
"I'll be over there in a few minutes. My axe just broke," he told me and I nodded before walking over to Blake and setting down the pile of wood. He looked up.
"He gathered all of that before I even got over there. He said that he'd be over in a few. his axe broke so he has to make a new one and get a few more pieces of wood," I told Blake and he nodded.
"Well, how about you help me with the building," he said and I nodded. I climbed up onto the wood layer that was already down. Blake handed me some wood planks. I began setting them down, going around the circle.
"Hey, have you built a door yet?" I asked.
"I'll do that soon. Make sure not to make the house too tall. We'll be on the move again eventually," he told me and I nodded. I continued putting down wood planks until the house was four planks tall.
"This is going to be the tricky part," I said. "Hey, how many more planks do we have?" Blake looked at the pile and then at me.
"Not many. Kai still isn't back with the wood yet. It's been more than a few minutes," he said and I slid off the side of the roof before flinching a little at the damage of the fall.
"Do you want me to go see if he's okay?" I asked. Blake bit his lip before nodding. He looked up at the sky.
"I'll get as much done as I can with the wood we have," he said. I nodded before beginning to walk over to the woods. I saw that the wood blocks were still there in the neat pile.
"They're still there," I whispered, before walking past them and into the woods. I looked at the sky. It was beginning to grow dark and I swallowed. I walked through the woods and looked around. Then, I heard some rustling and spun around, bow out, to see Kai. His eyes widened at the arrow pointed toward his chest.
"Sorry. Reflex," I apologized. He shook his head.
"It's fine," he said.
"What took you so long?" I asked. "Blake and I were getting worried."
"I just ran into some issues while building the axe that's all. There were some mobs guarding my crafting table that I had to fend off," he said, and my eyes narrowed.
"Hey, Scarlet. Do you remember me at all?" he asked, a bit of sadness in his eyes and my eyes softened. I went through my head and shook my head.
"No, sorry. Why do you ask?" I asked and he shook his head.
"It's nothing. I was just wondering," he said and I looked at the ground. I searched through my memory a bit more to find nothing. Unless it's in that area of my memory. I thought before shaking my head. No. It can't be there, not in the darkest part, can it. Those memories are ones that are the worst. But they're the ones I can't seem to remember. He couldn't be apart of one of those. Could he? Then, we came to the wood pile. we began picking up pieces of wood.
"Well, I'm sorry you can't remember. I wish I could forget," he said and I looked up at him as I picked up a piece of wood.
"I hate to say this but I'll never forgive you for what you did," he said with a smile, his eyes full of anger. His smile was so happy that it scared me. What did I do? I thought with fear, picking up the last piece of wood. Now, I knew that memory had to be back there, in the back of my mind. The memories that I couldn't remember but I knew had to be the worst ones....
