Chapter 8
I went with my feeling and ran toward Blake, fist clenched. But before I could even touch him he, in one swift movement, moved to the side and grabbed my wrist. Then, he quickly grabbed my other one, pulling both hands behind my back. I clenched my teeth.
“Scarlet, I’m sorry. But I really need you to trust me. I’m not trying to trick you, really. I just want to help you,” Blake said and I bit my lip as he held my wrists tightly. I looked back to see his brown eyes staring into mine. My eyes quickly went down toward the floor, trying to think.
“So, are you going to come with me?” he asked. I nodded, quietly and he let me go. Blake smiled at me and Kai just watched us. I half smiled back and Kai along with those guarding him went on ahead. Blake began walking and I walked beside him. My mind was still racing a bit. I don’t even know who’s telling the truth anymore. But they say Kai was just trying to keep me here again. What about what Kai told me though? If he did know me from before…. then what was I like back then? What did I do to make me end up there in the first place? Also, why does Blake think or say that Kai is the one to blame for a crime and wants to trap him? I thought as we walked through the nether. Soon, we got to the portal and Blake looked at me. I nodded, and memories of how Blake and I had met flooded my head as I went through the portal. The broken portal, the ghasts, the withers, and the rush of adrenaline of that escape. That first escape from the nether. I shook my head as I landed in the grass on the other side. Blake came out beside me and before me I saw the group around Kai. Kai had been silent since the trip had started, well mostly everyone had.
“Well, let’s keep going,” said Blake and the group nodded. Blake began going and I kept following beside him.
“What happened after that blow up on the cliff?” I asked, turning to Blake. He looked up at me.
“Well, I really did want to help but I was blown back in the opposite direction. Somehow neither of us died. But I was really worried about you. I didn’t know what happened I just knew you were gone,” he told me, his eyes showing the truth of his worry. “I thought you were dead. I shouldn’t have taken you up there in the first place. I don’t know what I was thinking.” I shook my head.
“Well, I didn’t die as you can see. But Kai ended up saving me as I fell or at least that’s what I believe happened. But I blacked out before I knew what really happened. Then, I woke up in the room in the nether with him there,” I told him. He nodded, listening.
“After you fell and I was blown back I was knocked back a bit down the hill. I had some injuries of course after the bit of a fall. It wasn’t until I got back down the hill was I realized that I was close to one of my acquaintance’s homes. So, I went there and they helped me out. After getting some help it ends up one of the guys there said they knew where you were. They had seen Kai taking you to the nether. I knew I couldn’t just leave you there so we came to help you out. We couldn’t leave Kai on the run for him to get ahold of you again so we captured him and we’re going back now. I think my acquaintance will want to see you at some point. So, that’s what happened. It shouldn’t be too long until we make it there,” he told me and I nodded.
“Okay. Now, I understand,” I said and he nodded.
“Oh, there’s the building, just up ahead. I looked up to see a very tall building, a tower, or mossy cobble and other blocks that I couldn’t figure out what they were from the distance. Blake could see my look of amazement and smiled. We continued walking toward the tower and when we got up to the building Blake walked over to the group and said something to them, probably orders of where to take Kai. The group went inside and disappeared.
“Well, you can go on in. I’ll guide you from there,” he said and I nodded. I pushed my hair out of my face before going in. Once inside I realized the place was much bigger than it looked. The entrance was a large room with mossy cobble walls and torches placed around for light. Chests were placed around the room, against the walls with signs on them. I saw a staircase that led upstairs and then looked around for anything else.
“Come with me,” said Blake and I nodded. I was led to an area of the room where there was a trap door. He opened it and motioned for me to go on ahead. I put my foot on the first ladder step and slid down from there. Once down on the ground I took a step forward and Blake came up behind me and went on past me in the semi-narrow hallway. He led me through the halls and I glanced at the walls only to realize that they were nether brick. I placed my hand against the wall, letting it slide across as we walked. I glanced at the white doors that probably led into other rooms as we passed. I wondered where Kai was. Then, we came to a white door at the end of a hall. Blake opened the door and I walked in. 'I'm sorry' were the last words I heard from him before the door suddenly shut behind me. I put my hands on the door, realizing it was closed from being opened on the inside. My mind went into panic.
“Blake! Open the door. What are you doing?” I said, my voice rising in volume and in fear. Then, another voice broke my own.
“Hello, Scarlet. Nice seeing you back again,” they said. The panic I already had spiked as I spun around, my eyes widening in fear. A slight smile came on their face as they saw my look of both terror and fear.
“N-no…” I whispered, my blood turning to ice. My body began shaking as I realized I wasn't safe anymore. The person I've been trying to stay away from for so long was here, before my eyes, and there was no way to escape...
