Chapter 9 (Try #2)

Kai

I sat in the cell, against the wall. They had taken away the gag and shoved me in here. I leaned my head against the wall and pulled my legs toward my chest. How could Scarlet believe him? But she may not have had a choice. Blake used force and either way she’d probably still end up here along with me. I thought. My thoughts flickered to that moment that Blake pulled her arms behind her back. But then it went to something earlier, something that Scarlet may soon remember. There was a part of me that hoped she remembered what happened before, but another part of me was scared of it coming back to her. There were many good things and bad things in her past. How will she handle it when she realizes what happened? I wondered. Then, I heard footsteps and quickly got up, looking through the bars at the front of the room. I watched as Blake walked past and my eyes narrowed as Scarlet followed, in pain. Blake opened the door and pushed her inside, shutting the door before I could even react. I ran over to Scarlet, as she lied on the floor, and knelt beside her. Her blue eyes fluttered open.

“Scarlet, are you okay?” I asked, worriedly. She sat up slowly, but grabbed her side and winced as she did so. As some of her black hair fell over her eyes she pushed it behind her ear, silent the whole time.

“Scarlet?” I asked quietly. Her eyes averted to the floor, but I could feel many emotions stirring around her.

“H- He’s back…” she whispered, her voice shaking.

“Who is?” I asked. Her body started slightly trembling and she looked up to me, her eyes watering and full of fear.

“Kai, he’s back in my head and I’m back in his grasp,” she said and my eyes widened. There was only one person she could be talking about.

“Scalet, you know how to fight him, how to keep the same thing from happening again,” I encouraged her, locking my eyes with hers. But she looked down and bit her lip, thinking, before shaking her head.

“It doesn’t help that I can’t remember things that I probably should,” she said, starting to get up, but clenched her side as pain shot through it. She crumbled back to the floor, clutching her side.

“Scarlet, what’s wrong? Did he hurt you?” I asked. She clenched her teeth before replying.

“He- He’s telepathically hurting me. Now, that he’s in my head... he can bring me pain anywhere again... and it can be like any injury that could happen naturally,” she said, struggling to get the words out through the pain. The tears that were in her eyes earlier slowly went down her face, she was afraid and mad all at once. She also knew that there wasn’t anything she could do about it.

“I’m sorry Scarlet,” I whispered and she just nodded silently, eyes downcast. Me being mad at myself for not fully keeping the promise from before kinda tore me apart because I knew that what happened before was just going to repeat itself. But I knew that my feelings weren’t helping the situation either and I bit my lip for a few seconds before getting up. After a few seconds of silence Scarlet spoke.

“Kai… I’m sorry for being so stupid and believing Blake-” she started but I cut her off.

“Scarlet, you really had no other choice. What could you or I have really done to stop that from happening and us being here?” I asked. She went quiet by that comment, turning away from me and walking off. She’d lost all of her hope in those few seconds, realizing that she had no way to not end up here.I went and sat against the wall, curious at what he had in store for us next. I glanced at Blake through the cell bars in the window to see a slight grin on his face. Then, seconds later I could feel it, a shift in the air. Someone just snapped. Then, I heard the sliding of metal and looked up to see Scarlet suddenly pull out an iron sword and turned just enough for me to see the grin and the dark red eyes that I remembered all too well. There was only one person who'd use that iron sword. I’m sorry Scarlet. I whispered in my head before beginning to take out my diamond sword. She dashed at me and slashed at my wrist, knocking the sword out of my hand, before I could even react. I hissed in the pain as blood seeped out of the wound in my wrist. I looked up at her as she stared down at me with those gleaming red eyes.

“Nice seeing you again Kai. But this time…. I’m not going back so easily,” she said, holding the iron sword near my throat.
