Chapter 1: Catching Sentret

“Thanks Ethan,” I told him before he left toward Cherrygrove City. I looked at Forest.

“Are you ready to get a new partner?” I asked him. He nodded with a determined smile. I began going through the tall grass. Then, I ran into a female sentret.

“It’s so cute,” I said. Forest looked at me and sighed.

“Forest use tackle,” I commanded. He did and it did a good amount of damage. Then, I reached into the pocket where I put my pokeballs and pulled one out. I threw it at the weakened sentret. It shook three times and then it clicked.

“Yes,” I said. (This is actually how it happened.) I smiled and sent her out.

“Hey there,” I said. Then, she walked up to me with a note in her paws.

“What’s this?” I asked taking it from her. She said sent and then I unfolded the paper.

Hello Emily,

You are now apart of something that many others around the world are doing. It’s called the nuzlocke challenge. The normal rules would be catching one pokemon per route and when a pokemon “faints” it’s considered dead. But you are one of our randomly picked people who get to do a variant. This sentret was specially picked out for you to do this variant that is called a Sololocke.

The Rules are as fallows:

  • You can only use this sentret for your entire run.
  • You may use pokemon for HMs but they can’t be used in battle.
  • The only time you can use your starter pokemon is only while leveling up this sentret to level six.  Once it hits level six you can’t use it anymore.
  • Finally, once your sentret dies the challenge is over.
  •

Thanks for reading this. Good luck with your challenge. Don’t give up.

    Sincerely,

    The Challengers

I looked at the paper and then at the sentret.

“Is this true?” I asked her.

“Y-Yeah,” she said. Then, my eyes widened.

“Did you just talk?” I asked, surprised.

“That paper is like a key. Once you read that paper it lets you understand me or any of your pokemon for that matter,” she told me. I looked at Forest.

“Are you going to talk too?” I asked him.

“I guess. Since I can now,” he said. I smiled a bit and folded up the paper. Then, I put it in my pocket. Then, I began doing my training.

“I’m going to get to keep you in my party, Forest, until sentret gets to level six,” I told him. He nodded and we continued on training. When I got Cherrygrove City I sentret was level six. I bent down and looked at Forest.

“I’m sorry, buddy. But you have to go. You know what. You’ll go to a place great for you. I’m going to send you to the forest. There’ll be other pokemon there and you will make some great friends. I love you,” I told him. Then, I hugged him.

“Bye Emily,” he said. I returned him into his pokeball and then I put him onto the panel for transfer. I opened up the forest area box. Then, I put his picture in and the pokeball on the platform glowed white. Then, it was gone.

“I hope he’ll be happy there,” I said.

“I’m sure he will,” said sentret. I looked at her and smiled.

“From now on it’ll just be you and me for battles,” I told her. “Are you ready?” She nodded.

‘I’m ready to take on any challenge they throw at me,” she told me, a determined look in her eye.

“Good. Well, let’s continue onto the next place,” I said. Then, we left Cherrygrove city and began going through Route 30. I noticed that the spot where the two trainers were battling was cleared. The trainers were just standing there. I walked up near the boy and he ran up to me.

“I just lost. Hey! You look weak let’s battle,” he said.

“Okay,” I said with a sigh. He sent out a rattata and I sent out my sentret.

“Use quick attack,” I called and she hit it with a quick attack. The rattata used tackle and then sentret scratched it. The rattata was taken out.

“Rattata,” said the boy sadly. Then, he ran over to his rattata and picked it up, eyes watering.

“Sorry,” I said, bitting my lip. Then, I picked up sentret and went on to defeat the other trainer. After defeating the bug trainer that was a bit ahead I went on. I continued training and I walked by the cave.

“We’ll go in there later if we need some training,” I told sentret. She nodded and then I saw two people standing in an area and staring at each other from a distance.

    “What’s going on?” I asked.

“ Ugh. I walked too far today looking for pokemon and my feet hurt,” he said.

“Sorry for you,” I said. Then, I picked up the purple or black apricorn. I took out the other bug trainer after that and I picked up the pokeball.

“Useless. Pretty much. Unless I want to get the HM pokemon,” I said, putting it into my bag.

“Time to go into the next town,” I said.

“Yep. I’m ready,” she said. I nodded and I went into Violet city.

“It looks so old. It’s like being in the past,” I said.

“Yeah,” agreed sentret. We went into the pokemon center where I healed up sentret.

“Let’s go to the gym,” I said. She looked at me, determined, and we went into the gym. There a man stood on the platform.

“Are you the gym leader?” I asked.

“Nope. The gym leader’s up there,” he said, pointing toward the celling. “But you’re not able to challenge him until you go to Sprout Tower. He wants all of his challengers in tip top shape.”

“So, he wants them over leveled?” I asked. “Because that’s what I’ll be if I go through there.”

“Sorry kid. But I can’t let you challenge him. Just go train some more,” he told me.

“Fine,” I said before turning around and going out of the gym. I looked at the sky just to see it was getting dark.

“We would’ve been battling at night if we could’ve challenged him. But I guess we’ll have to wait until we get through the Sprout Tower,” I told sentret. “Let’s spend the night at the Pokemon Center first.” Sentret nodded and we went to the pokemon center and slept there for the night, ready for the gym battle.
