“Don’t say a word,” said a male voice. I nodded in fear. My heart pumped faster. Then, I felt a rope tie my wrists behind my back. The room was still very dark. I couldn’t see a thing.

“Okay, come with me. I’ll lead you,” said the male voice. I jumped because I forgot he was still here. They led me through the room.

“Stay here,” they said. I nodded. (This isn’t any voice I recognize.) I thought. Then, the lights blinded me. I gasped. On the other side of the room was Aleshia, on the floor, dead. (No, Aleshia. They killed her.) I thought, looking for the person who spoke to me. The person who spoke to me was six foot tall. They had grey jeans, a blue jacket, and had a black cloth over their face.

“Yes, I killed your friend. She was getting too close to figuring me out. I’ll show you what she had,” they said pulling a card from their pocket. It was a king of diamonds.

“She was a detective or a night watchmen as you can tell,” they replied.

“But why do you do this?” I questioned.

“The card chose me. That’s why. My partner died while on a mission so it was up to me,” said the person.

“Okay then,” I replied. “I’d never known how people get the cards.” They nodded.

“Well, now since your friend is gone it’s your turn,” they said creepily. Fear filled my eyes. They pulled out a knife and walked toward me. (This is my end.) I thought.

Then, an idea popped into my head. They came behind me and got the knife near me. I quickly turned and jumped. The blade hit the ropes and cut them. Then, I kicked them.

“Ow!” they cried falling to the floor in pain. I looked at my hands. There was a cut on them. The person got up and punched me in the gut while I was looking at my hands.

“Ahh!” I cried holding my middle and falling to the floor. I got up slowly and then I grabbed their hands, tied them up with the rope, and kicked them again. They winced in pain and fell to the floor. After that I punched them in the face, knocking them out. “Okay. Time to figure out who this is,” I whispered. I took off their hood and gasped. (No. It can’t be.) I thought.

After that I fainted with the sound of footsteps in my ears. When I woke up I was in the doctor’s house.

“Are you okay?” a doctor asked.

“Y-yeah,” I replied, still shaky from the fight. I looked around and saw a jack of hearts in his pocket. (There’s the doctor’s card.) I thought.

“You’re going to be okay though. We got there just in time. Your friend was put in jail. He’s going to be there for a while,” explained the doctor. I was there that whole night. The next morning I was able to go home.

Then, a few days after that there was word that a prisoner had escaped the jail. (I wonder who it was.) I thought. I went to school that day and of course there was no Daren or Aleshia. My teacher and classmates comforted me. After school I walked home. When I got home I entered it and I tip-toed upstairs, so I wouldn’t awake my parents. I opened my door slowly and walked into my room. As I went to sit on my bed something on the window caught my eye. It looked like a piece of paper. I curiously glanced at it and tip-toed over to it. (It’s a note.) I thought before pulling it off of the window. A card fell to the floor. My eyes widened. (It’s the ace of spades card.) I thought. I unfolded the paper and it had writing on it I recognized. It said two words. Join me. Below it was the word from and a name. My hands were shaky. It said from Daren.
