Description
We have all heard the saying that “children stand on their parents shoulders”. This statement is an understanding that parents build a foundation that their children use to move forward in their lives. It is understood that children build forward from the point that their parents construct. It is a matter of sacrifice for our children, that we give up certain things as parents in order to give our children a better start that we had ourselves. In our world, children have historical done better than their parents, at least in our modern age. This structure is part of an old brick factory. Some 50 years ago, it produced bricks and created a physical and a metaphorical foundation for many parents to build a base upon which their children could construct their lives. The work was hard and back breaking, and not financially rewarding. Those families have moved on from this point, and given our current affluence, is is reasonable to assume, the move was to better times. Yet it reminds me that historically parents have sacrificed for their children and taken on many burdens so their children would have better lives.
In our world of financial uncertainty, parents continue this unending quest. I have called this image “Foundations” because of what was created in this structure (bricks), what it represents (a way to create a future) and finally what can remind us about our parents, our families and our lineage.

Can't remember what the show was called, but it might have been a Modern Marvels episode.
