Personality:
[+] Diligent/ Loyal/ Shrewd

If there is one thing Winona takes seriously, it is her duties on her farm. She cares deeply for her herd and would lay her life down on a moment's notice in the line of duty. Her industrious nature and youthful energy help aid her in her daily battle of keeping the flock safe from whatever lurks out beyond the pastures. Do not ever get between this dog and her work, otherwise you will be in for a world of trouble. It is notoriously difficult to earn Winona's respect let alone her trust, but once you do you will have a life-long and steadfast friend. She is very protective over those she cares about and will go through hell and high water just to make those around her happy. Winona makes her convictions and loyalties quite clear and is upfront about her intentions when it comes to social matters. Intelligent and quick-witted, Winona is a clever creature and she is well aware of her intelligence- maybe a bit too aware. Observant and calculating, she's incredibly adept at reading others and their intentions. Her astute nature makes her a valuable asset around the farmstead, always vigilant for potential threats to the herd or farm itself.

[O] Audacious/ Maverick/ Zealous

Bold and daring there are few things that cause Winona to hesitate. Her bravery and borderline impulsiveness has helped her in many tough situations throughout her life. She is cheeky and at times a bit impudent, unable to hold her tongue in most situations. Independent and a bit rebellious, Winona tends to only take orders from her owners and that is about it. Very few others within Canidale have her respect let alone the ability to get her to follow orders, which makes her a bit of a headache for more imperious individuals. Her distrust in established rules and guidelines allows her to see life from a fresh perspective and has alotted her a fair bit of opportunities but also causes her to constantly reinvent the wheel and make things harder for herself in some situations. Her passionate and fiery nature is one of her most prominent qualities and without a doubt she is absolutely a spitfire. Her energetic and determined nature keep her going from dawn to dusk and her passion for her work and life in general is crystal clear. However her intensity and earnestness do have a tendency to intimidate more timid dogs and annoy more aggressive dogs.

[-] Brusque/ Callous/ Stubborn

Outspoken and quite blunt, Winona does not give a damn about anyone's feelings. If she has something on her mind, you can bet that you are going to hear about it at some point. Her curtness in combination with her tactlessness make arguments and disagreements a common occurrence in her life. Her abrasive nature is usually reserved for her fellow dogs, though she still tends to be reserved around humans she does not know well. Winona was raised to be tough and resilient, due to this upbringing she has a tendency to be rather insensitive to the needs and feelings of others. Her lack of consideration and general ruthlessness tends to come off as cruel and a bit mean-spirited at times. Despite this she is not completely heartless, just terrible at showing the ones she does care for proper appreciation and kindness. Tenacious to a fault, Winona is beyond willful and just straight up hard-headed. Once she has her mind made up on anything, it is almost never going to change. Her adamant nature is the most frustrating to those that know her and has been the reason for the severing of past relationships.

PUPHOOD
Born to Hotah the Anatolian Shepherd and Leyla the Saluki, Winona was the first of five puppies from their accidental litter. Out of all the pups Winona was the largest and most energetic of the litter and upon being weaned from her mother her father's owners chose her to come back with them onto their farm. Life on the farm with her father and their owners was rustic and calm, but to the young pup every day was a new adventure around the property! From an early age Winona had a penchant for getting into trouble and would often have to be carried back in her father's maw back to the Kirby's homestead covered in whatever mess she got herself into that day. Her childhood was a pretty good one with very few hiccups, though she often found herself to be lonely considering she and her father were the only dogs currently living on the property. With her dad working to keep the herd safe and under control, Winona found herself alone more often than she cared to think about...

ADOLESCENCE
Once Winona began to grow, her father took her under his wing to begin training as a shepherd on their farmstead. Winona found herself bored by his line of work and his sense of purpose just watching sheep was...well kind of dumb to the juvenile dog. Despite her dubiousness, Hotah did all he could to instill the purposefulness he had within himself within Winona. Though she seemed uninterested in her duties, Winona's clever and hardworking nature showed early on as she picked up on the art of being a shepherd with surprising speed. As Winona grew, she quickly began to realize that her idyllic days of childhood were rapidly disappearing behind her and she too would soon have to dedicate herself to her duties on the farm- duties she never really asked for. Upon realizing this...she began to regress a fair bit and her headstrong refusal to follow even her masters' orders earned her father's ire time and time again. The father-daughter duo bickered constantly when it came to her upcoming responsibilities around the farm. It all came to a head when Winona decided enough was enough, and took off into the night towards the streets. If her father and owners would not allow her to live a life of freedom...then the streets would. Her adventure as a stray was rather...short lived to say the least. Winona lasted a total of three weeks before finally getting caught by animal control- thankfully she was chipped and her owners had been diligently searching for their beloved dog. Once she was brought home, it seemed that tensions would only raise between her and her father- who refused to even speak to her after the running away incident.

YOUNG ADULTHOOD
Ever since she escaped, Winona was usually either leashed under the strict supervision of either her father or at least one of her owners. If she thought she had no freedom as a juvenile, the fact that she could not even roam her own property on her own was enough to get her blood boiling. As time went on, Winona's spirit broke...she realized then that she had no choice but to resign herself to her fate of being a working dog. Seeing his daughter so disheartened... Hotah realized that perhaps this was not the way. A farm dog should want to work, for eons they worked alongside humans and were happy to do their duty. If Winona was not happy...perhaps it would be better just to set her free. So, he tells her this and tells her that he will free her from her leash, should she want to return to the streets... Before Winona could give him an answer, the sound of distressed sheep interrupted their conversation. A trio of feral and unhinged coyotes were attempting to hunt some of the younger members of the flock and immediately Hotah jumped in to chase off the varmints. Though Hotah made quick work of them, he was bitten by one of them...though only a small bit of blood was drawn so...not too much to worry about. After witnessing this event Winona found her interest piqued...she had not ever witnessed such an act of selfless bravery before and it was then she realized that maybe there was more to being a shepherd than just sitting around with sheep. After this she told her father she would be willing to give it another chance, much to her father's surprise. Weeks passed and the change in Winona's attitude was apparent even to her owners...however another attitude change was more pressing at that time. It was clear that the small bite Hotah received was more than...just a bite. He began to grow weary, sickly, and incredibly out of it. Upon seeing his abnormal behavior, the Kirbys took Hotah to the emergency vet immediately, but by then it was too late. Those coyotes Hotah had chased off a few weeks prior were aggressive for a reason...rabies. The disease was caught too late and Hotah was put down for his own well-being. When Dakota and Lydia returned back to the homestead without Hotah in tow...Winona realized that her father was never coming home.

PRESENT
Without her father in the picture, Winona is now the sole shepherd for the Kirby's farm. Though her owners were reluctant to leave her on her own to tend to the flocks at first, once they realized she would not run away she was given her own protective collar with her name engraved on it along with the official title of shepherd. Her father's tragic passing still lurks in the recesses of her mind, no matter how hard she tries to force it out. Now she throws herself headfirst into her duties on the farm, unwilling and unable to come to terms with the loss. Internally and constantly she runs through the scenarios in her head, how if she had been a better daughter from the start maybe she could have protected her father from his unfortunate fate...instead of being chained up and left to watch him defend the flock on his own. Still, even with her palpable grief she refuses to wallow in it- her father would not want that for her. No...she would do her father and her owners proud and become the shepherd they always wanted her to be- no matter the cost.
