Description Based on the Salters Duck wave power system but configured to support a light platform. Stephen Salter's design uses a floating buoy with an egg shaped cross section. This converts the wave action into a rocking, half rotating, action on an axil. This drives a water pump with the water pushed though a turbine producing electricity. It's generally anchored to the sea bed below.

In the case of the Duck and Deck sea stead there are two or three axil/ floats supporting a platform. The pumped water provides hydraulic power, electrical power, reverse osmosis pressure with any excess water is dumped into the sea as decorative water fountains.

Each duck damps the wave energy so the second and third gets less energy. Significantly this means the sea behind the duck and deck array is relatively calm making other sea stead systems easier and more comfortable. So often a large array of duck and deck units are wrapped around other systems in a spiral or layered square. The modules are self fendering in all three axis.

In very bad storms the Duck and deck arrays disconnect and scatter several dozen hull lengths so they don't collide and are wrecked. The protected sea steading systems in the calm zone scatter too.

The decks are very light weight because only half of the floats volumes are displacing water. Some are residential but most are storage, hydroponics, recreational spaces, helipads, or just empty platforms. Because of the weight limits, accommodation, etc is very spacious. Even the hydroponics systems tend to be more garden like not dense shelving. Often even empty decks have comfortable chairs and grass. Privacy and quiet is worth millions in a sea stead community. Sea birds often nest on the decks. This can be inconvenient in some cases or a resource in others. Guano is a useful fertilizer.

The deck does rock but its damped significantly. Duck and deck sea steads are said to be a little noisy though those that grew up on them don't hear the pumping sound and the splashing of the waves in the floats.

Duck and Deck sea steads are found on Earth, Aquitain and were planned for Gamalian.
