Description:
Helmsman of the Black Sun. One of the earliest members of the Flint Pirates (albeit through some "persuasion"), Howell Davis is strangely one of the most reputed pirates in the galaxy. Though his personality defects have kept him from forming a crew of his own (despite his best efforts), his skills in various ship functions and situations of combat have made him something of a rising star among pirates and brigands. Unfortunately however, this is offset by his arrogance and narcissism, as well as a certain streak of cowardice that he has displayed on some occasion.
Within the Flint Pirates proper, Davis is something of a necessary pariah. Having made no secret of his aforementioned arrogance and narcissism nor his occasional cowardice, Davis is largely treated with mild contempt by the rest of the Flints (with Alex taking an especial interest in antagonizing him), though his skill at the helm is enough that he is begrudgingly accepted as one of their own at the same time. That being said, his years of experience alongside his unique perceptions of things, all of which he makes no qualms explaining to anyone (not even to Jon or Barbarossa), have made him a strangely vital part of the ship's command structure, and even his detractors will admit Davis has an otherwise good head on his shoulders. Even so, this is all tempered by Davis' lesser traits and desires, which at best rub others the wrong way and at worst lead to no end of trouble for the Black Sun crew.
Underneath the "swashbuckler" persona he forwardly presents, Davis is a surprisingly complex individual, one who holds a philosophical (Machiavellian) outlook on himself, those around him and the universe at large. Despite the image he has adopted, Davis recognizes that he is nothing like the heroes of his favorite classics, being neither heroic nor honorable while only being focused on his own survival and prospering. In fact, Davis views the very concept of a hero as an unrealistic weakness, as he believes it will, whether through emboldening his enemies or putting one in an unwinnable situation, simply lead to an early demise. Thus, Davis acts accordingly, seeing no apparent shame in looking out for his self-preservation most of all, though in many cases such actions had cost him dearly (and at times comically).
Davis' lust for women is an especial facet of his personality and character. As many would claim there are only a few women in the galaxy that wouldn't catch his eye, Terran or otherwise, and the young pirate has absolutely no hesitation in pursuing the opposite sex. In fact, most of the stories he likes to tell to fellow crew members (when they bother listening) tend to revolve around the women he has successfully charmed, which seems to be an infinite number of (or so Davis likes to claim) and in nearly every known sector of the galaxy.
Unfortunately however, while Davis is more than capable of getting into the lower clothing of any woman he comes across, he also suffers from poor luck in his pursuits, as more often than not there will be a sizeable cost attached to his advances. For example, one of Davis' most infamous "exploits" was unknowingly seducing the wife of a colonial governor, which he not only barely survived through the day after, but ended up with his bounty tripled upon his extremely narrow escape. Other stories also make claims about Davis accidentally winding up in bed (or at least coming close to) with the likes of virgin priestesses, bloodthirsty Amazon types, men dressed as women, and at least on one occasion a full-fledged hermaphrodite.
Overall, while not the most powerful or most capable member of the Flint Pirates, Davis is still one of the most instrumental as well as the closest to the popular image of a lovable rogue (in his mind at least).

Ah... much, MUCH better than what I came up with. He actually looks cool here compared to the loser he started off as (and kinda continues to be).
