Tezcalipoca had been in the jungles stalking a tapir, a rather large-ish animal that would serve as a good meal, when he heard a familiar roar and an unknown stench starting to emerge in the air. He knew that roar, that voice. It was a familiar sound, a familiar voice.
Te’fia.
The prairie abandoned his hunt as he whipped in her direction and broke into a sprint. Muscles ripped under his pelt with each contraction and released of his leg muscles for each step. His feathers were raised in a threatening look as the fur along his back began to bristle. He knew the fierce guardian could take care of herself but it was the foreign stench that worried him. The trees moved past him in a green blurr as he leaped over tangled roots and avoided crooked trunks. Soon enough in a patch of sunlight ahead, there she was.
Black fur had turned into a faint dark yellow from the sunlight being poured on it as there was a snarl on her face alongside neon green liquid. A dead black corpse of something unknown lied dead next to her oozing out the same colored liquid while there were a few more in the sky. From the corner of his vision he saw a four-legged creature with bright blue mushrooms growing upon its back as Tezcalipoca’s pupils narrowed into slits. Everything in his being was screaming that the creature needed to be killed immediately and that it posed a danger he didn’t realize.
Hissing the creature began to run at Te’fia and launched itself into the air to pounce on her. It never made it. Blue blood stained amber fur as the jaguar god held the squirming body in between his teeth before he heard a shrill shriek being emitted before silence as he snapped his jaws shut. He threw the body to the side before jumping up to grab one of the green flying ones and shook his head to and fro with his teeth crushing it. He spat it out as Te’fia finished off the last two remaining ones.
“I am sure you are now aware of these beings?”
“This Tezcalipoca heard you roar followed by their strange odor, so yes.”
“I found them similarly to you, I smell intruders and found them. Wretched beasts, how dare they to desecrate the holy week of Death’s honor.” She hissed out, spitting out more green blood that dribbled down her mouth.
Tezcalipoca gave her an agreeing nod before both of their heads whipped in the direction of something crashing. Taking several sniffs, he let out a snort and a shake of his head. He couldn’t smell anything besides blood and judging by Te’fia look of disdain, she couldn’t either. The two braced themselves, snarls on their faces as their deadly teeth were bared. The sounds of something crashing through the trees grew louder before a familiar black and white shape rolled through.
“Xolotl?” Te’fia’s voice questioned as the pearl rook was covered in leaves, twigs and...green blood.
Xolotl scrambled up to his feet, chest heaving as his fur was puffed out in fear. His large ears were furled back as his eyes were wide.
“Th-th-the temple! The ruins! Th-th-they’re there!” He fumbled out “Chalchitotolin and Ig- I mean Ix are trying to hold them back!”
The prairie’s eyes widened at the information being revealed as he turned to look at Te’fia. He said nothing, turning away and sprinted back off towards the ruins. Xolotl followed in pursuit, a clumsy pup in the jungle compared to Tezcalipoca’s smooth movements. Thoughts ran through the jaguar’s head, the ruins always being the focus of it. Were they alright? What about his brother? His wards? Was it all going to crumble down here? The prairie hastened his pace as Xolotl let out a ‘wait up!’ before the two bursted through the trees and landed on stone before continuing.
Up ahead one could see a brown and a pale white figure fighting from various steps of the grand stone temple. The duo snatched and ripped the shroomies from the air while faint ghosts danced around the ruins dragging the blue shroomies away and into the jungle. Tezcalipoca turned to stare at Xolotl, he was the only one who would be able to summon the dead.
“I-I didn’t know how it happened...it just happened…” The smaller room mumbled out as Tezcalipoca stepped forward towards the temple while squashing any shroomies in his way.
From above Chal threw down an aerial and stomped on it before noticing Tezcalipoca from down below. The velvet hazel’s mouth was covered in green as their chest heaved.
“We have them covered! Find out where they are coming from and soon! I fear this may be the work of the spiteful goddess.” The dark rook called out before he let out a roar at one of the shroomies biting him.
Tezcalipoca’s eyes widened, ready to climb up before he heard a shout from Xolotl.
“Go! I’ll help him!” They shouted as Tezcalipoca looked away, swallowing thickly and nodded.
Without hesitating any further he began to run towards the festival grounds, something told him it was the epicenter of all this and where he would find the answers he was seeking. He had to hurry, not only did the lives of his wards depend on it but if the ruins were gone…
He was gone too.

The lithe rook moved as fast as he could, keeping well ahead of the nasty shroomies. Who knew what he would find nearby?
