"You're on the wrong side buddy. You better go back, otherwise..." A small voice warned from the shadows as Torstein slowly pulled to a stop.
It was dark and he thought he was alone on the dark, vast tundra. He hadn't spotted any other unfamiliar eyes besides those of a stray fox. However, just as he began to walked past a mound of rocks near the riverbend, that was when he heard the voice. Even alone in the night he had no fear, he was confident whoever spoke wouldn't be big enough to challenge him. It was rather pathetic even, hiding from the large rook yet threatening him.
"Otherwise what? You'll fight me?" Torstein shot back, a sneer on his face as he scraped the ground with a foot.
"Hehehe, you sound awfully confident for a rook who can't see his foe." The voice taunted before finishing off their statement with a snarl "Let me make this clear. Get off my territory otherwise you're going to regret ever being born."
Torstein's ears twitched in the direction of the voice as he walked slowly to them. His lips slowly curling back as he neared the mound of rocks. All of a sudden, a blurr of crimson fur rushed out before he felt pain shoot up his right leg. Letting out a roar, he violently shook his leg to toss the thing that had bitten him off, only for it to latch onto his other leg. Torstein's left eye gave a twitch at the thing biting him as he ran towards a large boulder, desperate to remove it. Shoving his leg against the boulder, he let out a cry as he only managed to hit his leg as Cayenne leaped off of his leg. Landing on the ground, the ferocious mini still had some of Torstein's in his mouth.
The large mini lifted his head high and puffed his chest out as they spat out the other rook's fur out.
"I warned you." The mini chuckled out, a smirk on their small face.
Torstein stared at Cayenne with narrowing eyes. Just what had he gotten himself into?
Food was all Luihu could think of. His loafmates needed food. They had failed their previous hunt and it rested on Luihu to make up for screwing it up earlier. He didn't mind hunting but he also didn't mind snatching the hardwork of another. However, now he was silent as the night. The small lights on his body dim with his concentration aimed on the prey in front of him. A deer and a buck at that. This would be a decent meal for his loaf mates. Taking a step forward, a roar in the distance caused the deer's head to shoot up for a moment before it darted.
"By Life's fangs..." He cursed as chased after it.
His ears flew back with the wind as he kicked it into high gear to chase after it, his mouth curling back into a snarl. He wasn't going to fail this time.
Torstein was about to catch that troublesome mini, he was so close he could taste the iron tang of their blood that is before he heard a loud trumpet. He leaped back as a large buck ran in between him and Cayenne, running away from something. As Torstein looked at the direction the deer had come from, a brown blurr slammed into him, throwing him to the ground as Luihu barrled over him. Even as the rook crashed to the ground, they didn't hesitate to get up and start chasing after them.
"Hey! Get back here!" Torstein called out, outraged at the other's action.
He quickly glanced around to see that Cayenne wasn't anywhere to be found and then he saw them. A crimson shape on top of the deer. The long fur on their tail trailed after him, streaking the sky a dark crimson. Close behind the deer was Luihu, his luminescent stripes glowing brightly with his frustration. The deer wasn't making it easier for him nor was the mini trying to take his kill.
Cayenne meanwhile didn't care at all that Luihu had chased this deer. The deer had ran into his territory, therefore it was his and if some christmas light decked fool wanted to take the kill for themselves, then they were wrong. That had been why the mini had sprinted after the deer, latching on immediate before climbing up. The deer hadn't made it easy to cling on but once Cayenne had sunk their teeth into the deer's hide, then it was an easier job. Nearby shouts, grabbed his attention as his eyes moved to go see Luihu right behind the deer with Torstein right behind him.
"Damn fools." Cayenne grumbled through a mouthful of fur.
Due to loosening their hold on the deer from talking, the wind hit them hard, throwing them off of the deer and onto the face of Luihu.
The luminescent rook let out an outraged shriek as Cayenne fixed their position so they were more comfortable on the other's head whlie grabbing onto the larger rook's horns.
"Get off of me!" Luihu shrieked as Torstein's distant laughter could be heard.
"No! This deer is mine. It ran on my territory." Cayenne snarled as he stared up ahead at the fleeing deer.
The silly fools! Could they really not take down a deer? It was a hilarious sight to Torstein, who sped up his pace to catch up to the deer. The large rook threw the side of their body against the deer, rejoicing as he heard it's trumpet as it struggled to regain its balance. The buck threw its head in his direction, striking the rook in the chest. Torstein let out a 'oof' as the antlers made contact with him as he lost his balance. They fell to the ground, rolling for a bit before they slowed to a stop as Luihu and Cayenne leaped over his now dusty body.
"...Hey small buddy, want to team up?" Luihu suggested, of course this teaming up was only to take down the buck otherwise Luihu planned on running off with it.
Cayenne looked own at the kukuri whose head he was riding on. Team up? The idiot. Cayenne could take on the stupid deer by himself but this was an amusing idea. Two full grown normal rooks couldn't take down a buck and needed a small miniature's help. He would get a kick telling this to Pepper. As much as he would love to spit in Luihu's face and hiss that he could take it on by himself, he decided to amuse himself and the other.
"Alright. We'll team up." Cayenne replied slyly "But you'll have to do as I say. Got it?"
Luihu gave a frown. Do what the mini says? No. No that's absurd. The mini wouldn't lead them right but as his eyes darted up, he saw the form of Cayenne readying himself. Their body was positioned as if he was going to launch himself off and forward. It seemed like whether Luihu said yes or no, it wouldn't matter to the mini. He needed a claim to this kill though, he wouldn't let the mini claim it all.
"Fine." They grumbled as Cayenne gave a smug smirk.
"Now hurry onto the front, get me close to their chest." The mini ordered before he looked behind him. "Hey you! Get on up and get over here to help steer this thing!"
Torstein raised his head from the ground, as he shook off the dirt. Damn mini. He wanted a piece of that deer however, but his pride...the large rook let out growls in complaint but ran after the odd hunting party nonetheless. As the rooks began to position themselves in position with Torstein on the other side of the deer to help direct it and prevent the deer running off, Cayenne could already taste the iron tang of the deer's blood even though he hadn't sunk his teeth in yet. Just as Luihu neared the deer's chest, Cayenne leaped off the rook and threw himself onto the deer's neck. The deer let out a loud warble as Cayenne gripped onto it's fur using his small hands before he moved his head to bite down hard on the deer's jugular. There he could feel its pulse, taste its blood and could feel the life beginning to eb away.
The two other Kukuri began to slow down in disbelief as the sight of a mini hanging off of a deer's throat was a striking sight. So the mini they thought was a joke ended up being right. None of them could see Cayenne's grin as he kept hanging on as the buck kept running halfheartedly, its pace beginning to slow down until it fell down to the ground. Cayenne moved so he could get hit and repositioned his bite so he bit into the deer's windpipe, cutting off its air and preparing to end its life once and for all. All while he did this, blood pooled around the deer's body, filling the air with the reek of its blood. Luihu and Torstein walked up to the dying deer.
"Hey mini, you were a good hunter all along. Who knew." Luihu commented, tilting his head at the dead deer's body. "However I think it's time I took my kill away."
"Yours?" Torstein bellowed out at Luihu
"You wish." Cayenne spat out as he let go of the deer's throat. "I made the kill. It's mine."
"But I started the hunt." Luihu pointed out, his voice oozing his unamusement with the situation.
"So?" Cayenne hissed out as Torstein took a step forward.
"I suggest you both leave, otherwise you'll regret it." They threatened, bearing their fangs.
"Oh, I'm scared or I would be hadn't I beaten your ass earlier." Cayenne sneered out, laughing.
Their laughter was cut short as Cayenne bit down on Luihu's foot, an attempt of the other to kick away the mini. The crimson kukuri bit down hard and shook his head side to side. Luihu let out a grunt as he tried to rip his foot away from the other's mouth as Torstein moved silently to grab the deer carcass by a leg. The moment he began to drag the carcass, the two kukuri had stopped and turned to glare at the fluffy robber.
"Where do you think you're going?" They both questioned at the same time as Torstein's eyes widened.
They began to drag the corpse as they hurried to get away from their angry hunting partners. A loud shriek could be heard as Cayenne rushed at Torstein, leaping up and biting the rook in the tendon on the back of their leg. A thud ensued as Torstein fell on the ground as Luihu kicked Torstein away before walking up to the deer carcass, readying himself to grab it before he felt pain shoot up an arm. He hissed out as he saw the crimson devil clinging off his arm.
"It's mine." They growled out.
However both were caught off guard as a figure slammed into them. Both Cayenne and Luihu fell to the ground as Torstein towered over them. Cayenne's fur bristled under Luihu's body as he watched as Torstein grinned. They turned away from the two, taking a bite from the carcass, eating it as the two downed rook fumed. Cayenne wiggled out from under Luihu as they charged after Torstein only to get kicked back by Luihu. The mini crumpled against the ground, watching as the two large rooks fought. White fangs flashed and soon became red as more blood stained the ground. Their snarls and growls filled the night as Cayenne could only watch the scene unfold. Stupid stupid him. He knew he should've killed the deer himself and cast away the others. Now he was paying the price. Anger boiled his blood, it fueled him to stand up again and cast his strength inbetween the fight of the other two for the deer.
Pride fueled Torstein's body. He had been humiliated earlier getting defeated by a small mini and there was no way he was losing this deer to a bunch of idiots. He had helped in felling this deer and he wasn't about to give it up either. It was better to save it for later than let some bandits take it all for themselves.
The need to feed his loaf was what made Luihu fight Torstein for the deer. They need to eat and their desperation had gotten to Luihu who would do anything for his loaf. Some dumbasses trying to take credit for his kill weren't going to stop him from bringing the deer back home. If he had to fight, he was going to fight with what he had.
The noise in the night had caught the curiosity of others, yellow eyes watched from the trees as an orange pelt slunk out from the shadows. The big boys were not paying attention and that was where the fox succeeeded. They were quick and silent in ripping a chunk of meat from the deer, the noises they made lost in the roars of the kukuri. Their bushy tail had disappeared back into their den where the yelps of their kits were soon hushed.
No one had noticed the fox and were distracted by the small swift skirmish they had found themselves in. Cayenne had soon be cast out and landed on the ground rather slopily. Well. They were distracted with each other, now was his time to strike. Grabbing a hind leg of the deer, he used all his strength to tear it off and run off with it a few feet to hide it behind a large boulder. Peering back, the two rooks were still fighting but it seemed they were tiring out. Meaning Cayenne had time to grab another leg and so he did. Well, it had cost them a few scratches and scrapes but he had managed to get two of the meatiest parts of the deer. Now only if he could somehow find a way to take both limbs back to Pepper, the little mini whom he had set his sights on.The others could fight for the rest of the deer, but it wasn't a whole deer anymore. It's valued had been killed by the rest of the scavengers.
Soon enough the other two did tire out, with no clear victor being declared besides one: Cayenne. The deer had been picked at by other scavengers after the mini had left leaving little for both big kukuri. The two rooks looked at each other and then at the small shape in the distance dragging two legs off into the horizon.
