To represent such a scene so well is truly incredibly.Β
I can't admire this enough.Β
Bloodied exhausted soldiers returning from battle, and a child welcoming them back is just such an incredibly powerful scene and message I think.Β

Plus there are layers to this. E.g. the girl and the other people welcome them back as the victors, but judging by just how beat up the soldiers are, they might not feel all that triumphant right there. They might be more in the mood to question if it's all worth it. That would potentially put the soldier being offered the flower in a bit of a tough spot.

It's an amazing piece, no doubt!

If I had to guess I'd say no. The girl is holding the hand of, I assume, her mother and stretches away from her to offer the flower. If they are family, I'd expect the mother to be right there with her and more importantly for the body language of the soldier to be more open. It's by no means impossible though. It might simply not be the focus of the scene and still be true.

Nice detail on the armor, although I don't know how the knight would bend over easily as there doesn't seem to be anything that would help him do that. Also, is one of those helmets inspired by the Greek Spartan helmet?

I've been joking around about the actual Roman triumphs , but now that you've mentioned that I'm starting to wonder whether wlop knew what they were doing from the start. If so, good job on the historical accuracy.

I can imagine the narrative behind this being like:

"Hey mister!" ,a soft voice spoke, nearly drowned out by the ruckus of tired marching and metal plates clanking. He looked down at the small elf girl, dressed in all white, her arm outstretched towards him holding a flower.

"I got this for you! For being a hero! You're a hero right?" ,she explained.

The knight's eyes dimmed through his visor. Her words stung more than his wounds. It was a victory, but not a triumph worthy of song or praise. It was a bloody battle, a miserable one. Too many lives were taken. Many of those lives were people he knew. And before that was the atrocities both sides committed. Blood on his hands that shamed him and his comrades. It was a victory, but a sour one.

"I'm not a hero," he solemnly said. He resumed marching, leaving the young elf behind to question the knight's response. Before she could ask why her mother tugged at her other arm to pull her back from the trampling feet of the other soldiers. Later, they will all toast to theΒ triumph and claim pride over their victorious sons. But he will know what he and his comrades went through, what they did, and the men they lost.
