Description

Hey, Vectorinos -- we are currently exploring that unfortunate era of Spidey-lore known as The Clone Saga. Prepare for confusion.

So while Peter Parker and his clone, Ben Reilly begin to doubt who is the clone and who is the original, yet another complication arises. Namely, ANOTHER Peter Parker shows up, claiming both Peter and Ben are clones and HE is the original Spider-Man. But after some shenanigans, it turns out this was a ruse, and this new Peter is actually a shape-shifting, weaponized clone sent by the Jackal. Because comics.

Soon, this Faux Peter and the Jackal launch a chemical weapon attack in Springdale, PA. The Carrion Virus used kills the entire town (save for one undocumented immigrant named Rafael Carago, who, for some reason, mutates into a creature named Helix, but forget about him — the comic readers did). This attack brings the attention of the New Warriors and Ben Reilly, The Scarlet Spider, who as it turns out, was revealed to be THE ORIGINAL Peter Parker (with OUR Peter being the clone all along).

This discovery, after all the other horrors he has experienced recently (his parents returning from the grave only to turn out to be robots, Aunt May finally passing away, and a load of other dark stuff) leads Peter to lose touch with reality. His despondent psychosis also leads to him teaming up with the Jackal and the shape-shifting clone, now named Spidercide. After fighting an army of disposable Spider-clones, Spidercide and Kaine (yet another failed Parker clone), Ben is able to finally snap Petey back to reality and they defeat Jackal, stopping his attempts to release the Carrion Virus in New York.

Spidercide, for his part, was freed from Jackal’s control by the mysterious being known as Scrier, and he turned on his creator. For his trouble, Jackal drops him from a rooftop to his death. Well, in as much as a walking pile of shape-shifting goo can die.
