Description Hi guys! This is a new set of 12 artworks I did for the new Star Wars Essential Reader's Companion. Although the dateline for this book was a lot tighter it nevertheless was an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

As with the last book I will be posting them in the order of sequence as it appears in the Reader's Companion. Enjoy!

This scene is found in a short story by Timothy Zahn called Mist Encounter and its one of my favorite fan pieces. Here Captain Voss Parck of the Victory Class Star Destroyer, Strikefast, and Colonel Barris meets Mitth'raw'nuruodo (Thrawn) for the first time. Following this event Thrawn joins the Empire and eventually becomes the Grand Admiral we all know and love, and also founder of the Empire of the Hand.

If you look closer you'll also notice that the clone troopers are wearing hybrid, transitional armor, a combination of phase II and the new stormtrooper armor.

I liked the story (as all of Zahn's stuff) and you did a great job with the first meeting here. Thrawn definitely looks like a down and out exile, and Barris has the right look of condescending curiosity.Β

Not possible i mean they can't Thrawn died only what 5 years after the battle of endor this movie is to be set nearly 30 years after it would upset the fans. I know the EU isn't canon but they would be shooting themselves if they added Thrawn into it as much as i would love to see him on the big screenΒ

Bullshit, they've explicitly declared everything in the Expanded Universe non-canon. Please don't get our hopes up by spreading false information.

This is Ab Fab dude... The transition armour is especially pleasing, although no more than a young Thrawn and the fact that this is set in that seldom covered era between 19 BBY and I guess ~10 BBY or so. They have their E-11s already too, nice... Top of the range equipment for those guys.

Hatred of non-humans ran pretty deep in the Empire, so Thrawn's advancement was truly a landmark. Now I know how it started.

first thing i noticed was the troopers armour looks like 501st on the edge of the transition, and if that's thrawn before he joined the empire then this is way before he reformed the new 501st. love the attention to detail on the uniforms

As for your artwork, what can I say? It brought life to the 'Warfare...' book and has twisted my arm (like it needed twisting ) into buying the reader's companion.

Stunning work wraithdt!

Always wondered what would have happened if Thrawn survived to fight against the Yuuzhan Vong.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

ThreadsOfSilence In reply to ThreadsOfSilence [2012-10-07 19:09:14 +0000 UTC]

Well if Pellaeon was able to give the Vong a solid thrashing when they tried to invade Remnant space, I can only think how Thrawn would have played those extragalactic masochists like well-tuned instruments with HALF the resources available, given how much more predictable they were than the Rebel Alliance / New Republic.

If he was involved at Ebaq 9 alongside Ackbar, the Vong would have lost more than just a third of their fleet and the Warmaster.

And imagine if he became part of the Galactic Alliance military after the dissolution with the New Republic. With all of those raw resources and soldiers and Jedi at his command unlike his canon campaign?

He would have simply retained the entire fleet at Mon Calamari to prepare a supreme trap for the Vong's desperate push and shredded the remainder of their forces, then simply overrun Coruscant with unprejudiced efficiency.

So, I take it back, I haven't always wondered what would have happened with Thrawn because I had a pretty good idea of what he would have accomplished.

Warsie In reply to ThreadsOfSilence [2015-10-16 01:31:07 +0000 UTC]

Thrawn isn't that great, remember he had 1/4th of the Empire to work with and Grant said he could fight Thrawn. Thrawn was mainly beneficial as he was non-huma and had no power base, so the remnants put him as commander of their fleet to some extent and he was on eof ht highest ranked leftover officers still in power.
