The Millburn family have close ties with the Merkwürdig breed, Infact some would consider it a legacy. During the 1860s, A woman referred to simply by 'Madam Millburn' disappeared with her spotted horse (Believed to be a Knapstrupper due to modern genetic testing.) and ultimately discovered the breed. She was also the one who introduced the leopard complex to the breed.

Although Merks nearly disappeared entirely in the late 1990s due to poor running of the registry prior to the Millburn family taking back control of it in the early 2000s, today the breed is slowly coming back thanks to breeding at Lavender Mists and other stables.
