Description The tatugator (Chelonisuchus major) is a species of crocodilian, descended from the modern american alligator, that exists, 207 million years in the future, in what is now South America. Descendants of the alligator are now the only crocodilians that survive to this point in time, and, since then, they have evolved into shapes almost unrecognizable to their Holocene ancestors. The tatugator measures 2 meters in length and is a herbivore living in the forests and swamps surrounding the big South American delta. Its mouth adapted itself to a herbivorous diet, with strong jaws to munch on the vegetation, having evolved strong muscles in the back of the lower jaw to aid in the chewing. It has evolved a keratinized beak that starts behind the eyes and goes down to the tip of the lower jaw, giving it a hooked tip. Its teeth are round and tough, to strip off plant material, but they are very simple. They can deliver a powerful bite if they feel threatened. To reduce the risks of being killed by predators, they have protective armour on their back, which resembles that of an armadillo, at first glance.
