they're not necessarily meant to have a whole lot of lore, but i usually include a bio with my OC refs so:

As a living cartoon character, Piper's face, voice, color scheme and even artstyle tend to change based on their mood. Their outline is actually part of their body, and people around them can actually see it. This also goes for their weird facial expressions and other special effects that they're capable of. The dotted pattern in their hair and clothes is apart of it as well.
As a living cartoon character, Piper's artstyle changes with their personality, as does other people of their same species. Piper can't change their artstyle or form willingly, but under certain circumstances, their appearance can change on a permanent level. (For example, if Piper were sad or lonely for an extended period of time, day, weeks or months, their appearance would change to reflect that. Their color scheme would be a lot duller and stuff, etc.)
Though they're technically a cartoon, Piper still takes damage like an ordinary human being. Taking hits will still hurt them the same way as it would a human. Despite this, Piper seems to have strange reactions to things that other people would consider harmless (such as rain, which causes their colors to become distorted/smudged.)
As for personality, Piper is very upbeat and loves to explore. They're sensitive and easily hurt by peoples' words, but won't hesitate to fight back, even when they shouldn't. They tend to hide how they feel most of the time, though. Piper can't actually take care of themselves very well on their own, and lives with a friend. They're very lazy when it comes to self-care, often not fixing their hair or changing out of pajamas for days at a time. Despite their upbeat attitude towards life, they suffer from OCD and tend to have frequent nightmares. It definitely gets in the way sometimes, but it doesn't stop them.
