thats amazing and the layering and use of materials is excellent
is it just a dragon, or is it by chance from eragon?

Thanks muchly!

well the dragon character, saphira, is a blue dragon, and though the design on the book cover is... kinda lame, yours bears a lot of similarities, and kinda made me think it was a new improved version or something
but either way this is sooo impressive and awesome!

This is fabulous. I would love to see you do a tutorial, as i've been struggling with maskmaking for a long time.
I'm sure you're busy though.
thanks for sharing, beautiful work.

I honestly would not recommend making a dragon mask in the way I made this. If I were ever to make another, I would use an entirely different method. This one took longer, and didn't produce as good as a result as it could have. I just had a look around for fursuit head tutorials online for the basic construction, and improvised from there.
What kinda masks do you make?
And thank you!

My last dragon mask was somewhat of a fiasco. i tried super sculpey over wire mesh, and it was too thin so cracked. Etc, etc. coated it in a textural plaster and painted it, but still want to go back and fix it someday. perhaps cover it in feathers. Mine looks like absolute puu compared to yours, but anyway. Thanks for the info.

I want to try this on! It looks so amazing in the pictures... I can only imagine how it looks in person! Great job, you should give another one a shot!

I've been seriously considering it! I have a method in mind for making masks, which I think could be much more effective than what I used for this. I am tempted to give that a try when I find the time and motivation.
Thank you ^_^

Ahhh yeah, you always figure out faster and more efficient ways as you do more. Definitely give it a shot when you have time! You're welcome. ^^

Holy damn, that is truly gorgeous. The detail... This doesn't look "off" in any way I can see. Is it fully wearable? I'd love to see some photos of it in action. Would you be willing to talk about the process more? I know that might be a pain in the ass, but I'm amazingly curious.
Again, amazing work.

Well, the texture mainly on the horns looks a bit.. lumpy, when you look at it in person. Paper mache makes precise details difficult.
I used plastic mesh for the basic structure and filled that in with foam that I carved into shape. Horns were made with carved polystyrene. Then I coated it with a few layers of epoxy, and used paper mache for the scales and details.
Thank you!

Ooh, cool! Even though that's the nature of paper mache, I think you wrestled it into submission pretty well. Also, the mask has a slight texture that works well to trick the eye into seeing rough scales.

Thanks! Glad you think so.
I didn't get many photos as it progressed. I have this though, showing what it looked like before I began adding the scales - [link]

XD I don't think I'd take it anywhere with so many people. I'd be too paranoid of getting it damaged or something. If I did, I'd probably get someone else to wear it instead, just to be confusing.

Your head probably wouldn't fit in it! So far only one other person has been able to fit it.
I still want to see your mask in person >.>
