The moments of mercy or weakness are the worst. They just make things harder for everyone.
Someone wrote a fic for this awful AU and it had Papyrus steal the Rubik’s Cube after an IQ assessment, which brought this little scene to mind. Later Gaster told himself that giving them the cube would help them practice for future tests, thus doing so was entirely practical and reasonable.
Poor Papyrus having a tough time lately, though Sans isn't looking too hot either. He's in the tube again since he's close to death and the tube is keeping him alive.
If it's not clear, the X's are made of a single color on each side. The forcefields are the same ones you see around Hotland, the ones that only turn on when you get close enough.
How DID Papyrus get the cube is the real question

I personally imagine this as after the page where Papyrus refused to kill the subject, and the very last frame was a flashback of him saying he didn't want to kill anything. I don't know why he was so emotional though...maybe they'd attempted it before since he said "That sounds like I'm suppose to hurt something..." like he knew what has happening. And maybe he got upset over that attempt, and Gaster damaged Sans like above, but more than he intended, and he felt bad about it but tried not to let it show.

I don't think there IS a specific order...kind of like...there is a timeline but it's up to you to mentally put it together and it doesnt really matter how you read them as long as you can understand some events are before and after others....

Man this au is so dark and depressing. I prefer the ones where Gaster was shown as once a good father so you could feel bad for him you know being ripped out of existence. Even if he becomes a baddie now messing reality up from in between space and time you would still feel sorry for the guy.

I really hope gaster isn't like this if we ever meet him in game or in a sequel of the game. On other hand, I kinda hope he is like this, so we get more drama and get to know more about the relationship between the 3. Besides that, I liked your comic!
