Pebble held his breath and counted to ten. There was no way they could do this alone. Between the two of them, they haven't been able to fell a single tree yet, not even in the months it's taken to rebuild Tao. Pebble stepped up next to Sam, placing his body so that it forced the mudkip to the side so that Pebble was now the one facing Mr Vega.
Ignoring Sam's protests, Pebble smiled politely up at the gentleman. "I'm sorry, but we'd actually really appreciate the help."
A small grin was visible on Mr. Vega's face as he heard Pebble's request. "No need to be sorry sir. Our line of work has showed us how to cope with situations like this. But I digress. We appreciate your consideration of this temporary merger of teams in order to alleviate the workload. Let us proceed in telling you our current work plan. Before we get started, let's begin wi--"
Sam opened his mouth as if to interject, but a well-timed vine quickly sealed it again. Pebble shot him an annoyed look, like what an older sibling would give an immature kid brother. A sort of silent plea for him to be quiet. Mr. Vega takes notice of the silencing vine and looks at the two quadrupeds with a look of intrigue. "Oh I'm sorry, did you mean to say something?" Mr. Vega said. "I don't mean to interrupt. Please, continue...
You were saying something about it being a splash in the pond?"
Sam can be heard muffling behind that tight vine muzzle, but Pebble tightens it up a bit more.
"...oh, you were finished? Oh well allow us to continue. My cohort and I think that the best course of action in this event is to split up in groups of two, but not like we are right now, of course. I mean one of us and one of you, working together to achieve feats that were previously unobtainable by the two of you alone."
Sam shook himself like a wet houndour until Pebble had to let go of his mouth.
"There ain't nothing we cant do on our own, got that?" He shouted. Pebble sighed and shook his head at his friend’s insistent chatter. He tried to keep the conversation on track.
"Um, so uh...wait, why do we need to split up? I mean, wont it make more sense to stick together?"
Mr. Brooks turns around to face Pebble. "On the contrary, sir." he begins "Our skills combined this way will increase the productivity tenfold. I see that you are quite observant and clever, so I propose myself to be your aide." as he finishes, he moves closer to Pebble, taking his side. He then points at Mr. Vega. "As for my partner here, he can proceed to leave with your acquaintance." Mr. Vega moves closer to Sam, much to Sam's dismay. "Mr. Vega is quite capable of coming up with plans to make sure your partner isn't going to foil the preparations of the mission. I could go on, but I believe that you have the basic idea."
Pebble still seemed a bit unsure about the situation, but Sam wasn’t so silent about his thoughts. The mudkip squinted at Mr Brooks, unimpressed. "Alright, so if you're so smart, what will we be doing once we split up?" "Well, one of our two teams can go get seeds,” Pebble suggested. “In any case I'm fresh out. Do you have any idea where we could find some more?"
This last question was directed at the two gentlemen, hoping they had read the letter more thoroughly than Sam. Mr. Vega strokes his chin with his right hand, as he tries to remember what the letter said.
"If I am not mistaken, our contractor said that this gentleman, Dimitri I think, has a large stockpile of seeds and saplings near the Law Offices of our contractor. I suggest that we head out to said law offices first before venturing onwards in order to get ourselves suited up for this laborious mission. Don't you agree, Mr. Brooks?"
"I concur, Mr. Vega. I concur." he said, while nodding slowly with his eyes shut.
Pebble thought about this a moment, then nodded. “Ok, you and Sam can go there and get seeds. I’ll go with Mr. Brooks to the southern edge of the forest and start chopping down some trees to make room for planting. We’ll meet you there!”
