Thanks! Any suggestions on how to fix it? I know I messed up the shading on the upper half, but I didn't really know how to fix it properly. The best I could do was to make multiple layers and pile on the opacitive effect to make it dark enough without seeming absolutely black.

you can use the radial blur on the shaded layer, smooths it out.
