Description This is my very own Scarf of Sexual Preference, from A Very Potter Sequel. I knitted it, and it's taken me a little over a month. I'm quite proud of how fast it went, though the fact that while I was making it I watched the entire first season of Chuck and listened to the entire first series of Cabin Pressure might have something to do with it. Anyway, I made it for LeakyCon, which is is a little more than a week (EEEEEEEEE!!), and I'm planning on showing it to the StarKids when I meet them there. My friend is accompanying me as Sorty.

Anyway, hope you like!

EDIT (7-15-11): Today was the StarKid signing! I got a poster signed and I wore Scarfy in line, they all loved it! Brian Holden said he thought it was actually BETTER than their prop (HAVLGHBDFIVBLXCSADVLHSVIUAHVO ), Joe Walker thought it was "badass," and Darren described it as "f*ckin' awesome." And Lauren petted it. (LAUREN LOPEZ PETTED SOMETHING THAT I OWN doesn't sound creepy at all...). They were all really impressed that I knitted it. And later, my friend (who was Sorty, and further behind in the line) mentioned she was friends with me, and they STILL thought I was awesome! Okay, done fangirling for now.

I've got a Sorting Hat too. My friend is going to wear it, and we'll be Sorty and Scarfy. But you should make one. It was actually quite simple...time consuming though.

I didn't use a pattern, I just kinda made it up as I went along. Basically what I did was knit six separate strips each about five feet long and sew them together for the main part, and the flap under the mouth was a separate piece, about six or seven inches long, same idea. Then I sewed them together and added black felt for the mouth, and tassels and eyes. It sounds complicated but honestly it's not!

There's no specific pattern! Basically what I did was knit six strips in the colors (I did them about as tall as I am -- around 5 feet), then another six strips about six or seven inches and sewed them together. For the mouth I just folded the end of the longer piece into that shape and sewed black felt for the inside of the mouth. I don't think I did a very good job of explaining it, but I hope that helped...

Ahh! I've never done a tutorial before. And honestly I don't think I would be a very good teacher, either...I learned in first grade. I would try YouTube? Or maybe someone here on dA who is infinitely more patient than me has one. I'm really sorry. But once you've got the basics down, I'd be happy to tell you how to make your own Scarfy...

It's been a really long time since I've knitted something. I forgot almost everything I learned. I never used the knitting needles though, I used the circle thing, I forget what it's called. Loom! That's what it was.

I think weaving's a little different, I can't do that. Knitting is actually fairly simple once you've got the hang of it.

I knitted it into a squared-off shape (it was one big rectangle) and then sewed it into that shape. There's black felt that makes up the mouth and covers up all the yucky ends. (I don't think I explained that very well, but hopefully you go it.)

I love Cabin Pressure. I really only started listening to it because of Benedict Cumberbatch, but I'm in love with all of them now. Douglas is my favorite.
