Description

Graphical vomit of some things that may or may not be useful when drawing digitigrade characters.

Thanks for viewing and faving and all your nice comments!
I'm blown away by the response this has gotten over the years.

and hey, sup, I'm Zyraxus. I draw a lot of dragons and the like.

Dohohooo. Very very helpful. I ended up getting that squat thing a lot. I get all rage like when attempting digigrade. Tanks for posting this. My raging will be pleasantly less often!

Oh I needed this when I drew my anthros character reference sheet. The leg position drove me crazy because everyone drew digitigrade in crouching position but my characters looked so awckward that way... After trying for hours, I sorta ended up with your solution, even though I never fully understand what was the matter and they looks a bit awkward anyway [link] .
Your stydy makes things much much clearer!

Oh man, believe me, I know the frustration of knowing SOMETHING is wrong but not knowing how to fix it. And then obsessing over it until I figure it out, lol. I think the outcome of your ref is very nice! Really, you did a great job puzzling the anatomy out. It looks pretty damn natural.

One thing I didn't note, but your comment makes me think of: my general rule of thumb for foot-angle is to match it to the angle of the thigh. Like, if there was a line straight through the femur in 3D space, and one straight through the footbones, side by side the lines would be more or less parallel. Doesn't always apply, but it seems to work in many poses!

That's exactly were my problem is: I'm happy about the eagle legs, but I always found the tiger legs somehow wrong and unbalanced, and you helped me figuring out that the problem is the foot line not matching with the femur! You really helped a lot

I do agree with this. Very much so.
Now if my characters look crouched it's because they are crouching, hon hon hon.

This is a pretty good guide, I'll save it in my tutorials so I can thrust it upon people who bugger it up, ey?

Not that there's anything wrong with crouching. It just looks hard to walk that way!

Ahaha, yes.
