Aw goodness, thank you, i feel like im falling behind on the improvement part of my art. i feel a bit stagnant
its getting better. my recent assignment was awarded a B so thats nice. i was warned that this teacher is a hard grader.
really hard. but hes fair, he grades for professional work, which i do like.

I know what you mean, I feel like I've been a bit stunted lately too. But sometimes it's hard to see when you've grown since you're always you. Take it from someone else, you've grown
He sounds tough. Is he at least a good teacher? On one hand professional is good, the paintings he likes are definitely ones to put in your portfolio! On the bad side that's bound to cause chaos with grades. It's really difficult to do your best when you're balancing a bunch of other classes.
If you ever find the time this really helps me! Sometimes I like to paint directly from pictures for practice. It challenges you but at the same time you don't have to think about it too hard since it's right in front of you. It's helped me leaps and bounds with my lighting and color pallets!

well, hes is fantastic teacher, and its for animation, not illustration. ^^ my aspiration is to become an animator. i have SO much respect for him, in fact, i failed his first class, and took it again knowing he would be the one to prepare me for my professional career.
and i really should do that, i want to take some online classes for digital painting. there are so many resources out there. but i need to complete this program first ^^. im also working on getting my long distance bf over here from the Netherlands, we hope to move in together in about 1.5 years. and thats money.

Ohhh. I took animation but we had illustration and concept art classes mixed in. I assumed you had the same, sorry about that! To be honest, I failed my intro 3D course the first time haha. I just couldn't wrap my head around the program and it took me a while to get used to it. It did help me, in a ways. I became more determined to learn it after that. I'm glad he's a good teacher and that you're still pursuing something you love!

I graduated from New Mexico State University and my degree is in Creative Media, emphasis on Animation and Visual Effects. I got to work with a lot of different things but concept art is still my favorite! I want to get better at 3D modeling so I can work with that in the future. I'm currently getting ready to apply for jobs~

haha acutally i failed my first time too, Audodesk maya is an absolute bitch at times. Im learning 3d animation atm, only becuase its industry standard. but my heart is in 2D. I think i would LOVE making rigs though. But i need Zbrush. or 3D maxis or something.

well this is actually a long story, and ill share it, but bare with me here, its longish XP. I was kicked out of my art school. But very unjustly... i was very wronged from that private art school. you see, my roomate and best friend at the time (were still friends she didnt wrong me) we shared art history together. And it was very apparent to every one we were close. I had gotten very behind on my illustration and typography homework. as its the case for every college, professors dont understand the concept that we arnt only taking their class. Because illustration was more important to me, i asked my friend for her daily book assignment to rewrite, yes, i cheated but it goes further. Months go by, i dropped a class and caught up in illustration. all was peachy, never cheated again. There was this boy in our class, who my friend was hoplessly in love with. but he never relaly treated her well...but thats a different story. he asked her for her final term paper to 'rewrite' and she of course gave it to him. well he just slapped his name on it and handed it in. so they were caught. and becuase he knew me and her were friends in class he went back and compared and contrasted all of our assignments. and got me. a daily simply book assignment. we go on trial one by one. there is a lot inbetween, but ill make it as short as possible. they suspended me and my friend and that boy. we only had 3 weeks left of our semester, didnt matter. not only did they not let me finish those few weeks but instead of making all my classes and incomplete they put an F, ruining our transcript. they road the thin line of legality adn talked about our case in class. but the inronic thing, just the previous semmester, a girl was caught tracing art from DA and handing it in. but she wasnt punished as much as me and my friend...this sounds suspicious, but..we were well known and well liked by every major, we were rather talented for our majors. adn i think we were being whiped out in front of the school as a public example.... there were a lot of understanded and sketchy stuff they did, but at this point it just doenst matter. im in a program called Animation Mentor, and im working iwth my future employers to become the animator i want to be (my prevous school was actually cancling the animation major) a group students led my me and a few other people even approched the board saying we would help rewrite the program and make it great, but they really didnt care. well that was a mouth full, im sorry for all of this ^^' but thats my story shortened

Rigging is so fun! I'm not the best at it but I wouldn't mind practicing it more. ZBrush is amazing, I definitely recommend it! I hear the painting/texturing system in Mudbox is better but I have yet to try it out. You could sculpt in zbrush, save it as an obj. and export it to Mudbox to try, if you get the chance~

That entire situation sucks. I know colleges are very paranoid about plagiarism (I imagine because they could be sued if one of the students misuses information) but they can be really extreme sometimes. I knew one girl who turned in an essay she had written in high school to her college class and was kicked out because it was considered plagiarism. Even though it was her own work. I understand why they are strict but it made me worry about writing my papers. There are only so many words in the English dictionary and if you're all writing about the same subject how many people are going to write similar things as you? How many past students have already?
I'm really sorry you were stuck in the situation, it's really difficult with all the work that has to be done. The fact that the girl tracing artwork from dA for her assignments wasn't treated equally is unfair. I hope this new school is doing better for you!

it does, but i moved past it, accpeted the wrongs i made in that mess. But that school does not act in a professional manner with this process, and i lost all respect i had for it.
and man that sucks, wow. she was flagged for her own work. This new school is incredible, im glad i left my old one, where i dont think i would be pushed the way i am now.
