Well, I think there are some instances where you can get hired to paint a public wall or something of the sort. Then that's not illegal.

they buy it up and that would leave me to my art

I know what you mean. I would never dream of leaving my hometown, even after I move out (forever an NJ girl ), but going without reading/writing? That's like losing the ability to breathe. I wouldn't mind running something like a library or a bookshop, in fact that sounds quite pleasant. But maybe I'll do something with my abilities as a musician? *shrug* I'm not sure yet.
